Pearl Kinsey Pelt

March 29, 1933 - October 29, 2024

Pearl Kinsey Pelt, 91, of Sour Lake passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones Tuesday, October 29, 2024.

Pearl was born March 29, 1933, in Sour Lake, Texas to A.C. Kinsey and Ada Broom. A lifelong resident of Sour Lake, she graduated from Sour Lake High School.

She was married to Arnold Pelt for over 60 years. Together they traveled to many places including Las Vegas and Lake Tahoe among their favorites.

Pearl was an avid reader and even had her very own library where she liked to spend time.

Her favorite pastimes included fishing at Lake Livingston with family and friends, attending cow shows, ballgames, especially basketball games, and going to an occasional concert where Willie Nelson, George Jones, or Loretta Lynn may be performing. Gambling at the casinos was a popular activity for Pearl who was known to be lucky a time or two winning some money, but really it was playing cards on New Year’s Eve at her son David’s with family to ring in the new year that Pearl always looked forward to doing.

A top fan of Perry Mason, one might find her watching this show regularly along with Jeopardy, the game show where she knew more than a few of the answers. One afternoon after school, on a weekly basis, the grandkids would enter Maw Maw’s house to the smell of freshly baked pizza. It was called Pizza Day and was a great gathering of the family. These traditions are what made the Pelt house a place filled with much love and memories.

In 1976 Calvin and I moved to Sour Lake. One of our first houses was on Smith St. next to Pearl and Arnold and their children. Pearl was always so sweet to us. I can remember her always with a paperback book in her hand. Judy was in high school and she was dating Craig at the time. Pearl always liked Craig and often told us how much he meant to them. Pearl was the best! Prayers for the family during these times. I know she was greeted at the pearly gates with open arms. Love ya Ms. Pearl.

    Teresa Attaway Dumphy says:

Pearl had an appropriate name, she was definitely a pearl. She was a hoot, very funny; a trait she passed along to her kids. She seemed the opposite from Arnold, he was so calm and quiet. I attended a slumber party for Marilyn (aka Sissie) many moons ago and Mrs. Pelt (as we called her then) made it a great time for us girls, good food and lots of laughs. My condolences to the family. Sour Lake has lost another treasure.

    Janice Lyons McDaniel says:

I have so many sweet memories of Pearl and my mom as they served as room mothers as Marilyn and I grew up. The Pelt kids was as lucky as me and my siblings in that we both had loving parents. May God be with you all giving you peace and comfort.
