Peggy M. Wood

April 12, 1930 - December 29, 2024

Peggy M. Wood, 94, of Beaumont died peacefully on Sunday, December 29, 2024, comforted by her loving and caregiving grandson, Rob Patton. She was born on April 12, 1930, to Hattie and Charles Miertschin in Thorndale, Texas. She worked at Coastal Pools alongside her husband, Carlton Wood, for over 50 years as administration assistant and pay role clerk. Peggy loved working side by side with Carlton and was proud of never missing a pay role for over 50 years.

Peggy was affectionally known as Mimi! While this was her and Carlton’s second marriage, the word “step” was never used because she treated each as her family. Peggy’s hobbies included gardening, attending estate sales, decorating, and pouring affection on Carlton, family, and friends. During her lifetime, Peggy had a soft heart for her canine friends and had at least five dogs whom she cared for lovingly. She was especially fond of her last dog, Will, who would sit by her side as she read her daily newspaper, drank beer and ate chocolates. It was rumored that she sometimes shared with Will. Peggy loved all sports and was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan. Peggy never loved anyone more than she did Carlton, but Troy Aikman and Tiger Woods came close. Friends and family would never leave her home without receiving some gracious gift. Peggy was a generous soul who was a giver in life.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carlton Wood; brother, Charles Miertschin; son, Carlton Wood III; daughter, Mary Jane Rayner.  She is survived by many family including children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. She left behind many loving friends who will miss her friendship and laughter.

A gathering of Mrs. Wood’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her graveside service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 3, 2025, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 4955 Pine Street, Beaumont.

Terribly sorry to learn of this. I lived in Beaumont in the mid 70’s, and knew Carlton and Peggy prior to their marriage. I’m not sure I have ever seen a couple more suited to each other than they were. It was a pleasure to behold.

Martin knew Peggy much longer than i did. He always told me that she was the bright light in Carlton’s life. She loved making Carlton happy and her kindness to people around her was natural. I never heard her say a negative thing, about Anything!!!!! She was honestly one of the sweetest ladies I’ve ever known.

I was blessed to inherit her love 💕 of nature, plants and animals. She always said she didn’t trust a person that didn’t have any fur on them. I miss you so much, Mom ❤️

Knowing Peggy for many years and she was a delight. I know she was not pleased as she was not able to do all the things she wanted as she spent the whole of her life quite independent. Thank you to her grandson who did whatever was possible for her to remain independent.
