Peggy Stewart Geraci
Peggy Regina was born in Beaumont, Texas, on December 15, 1926, to Forrest and Levi Stewart. She shared her life with siblings James (Mack), Margaret Ann, Forrest E. (Eddie) and Anthony (Tony) Stewart. Peggy was a devoted sister and loved all family traditions and recollections. Peggy passed away peacefully at her home at age 96 on March 8, 2023.
Peggy worked at Mobil Oil during her early years. On August 6, 1955, Peggy joined in marriage with Steve Geraci and through that union grew a family of four sons. Son, Stephen and wife, Brenda, reside in Houston, Texas; Daniel and wife, Edie, of Nederland, Texas; and sons, Gary Geraci and Jerome Geraci of Beaumont, Texas.
As a hardworking mother and spouse, Peggy toiled in the very large garden that she and Pawpaw grew. Her focus though remained on the upbringing of her sons, and she devoted her love and care to them. What a Way to Go
The matriarch of our family at age 96, sister Peggy, passed on Wednesday, March 8. She died in her sleep, in her own bed at home with family present who told her they love her, held her hand, prayed, and read scripture.
My walking group guys – The Wheezers – regularly comment that this is the way to go… in your sleep.
Peggy mothered me b/c, at age 16, she assumed some mom duties for me. Imagine a 16 y/o girl in high school, telling her friends that her 43 y/o mom was pregnant with a baby on the way! Embarrassing. Instead of dating, attending proms, she was rinsing diapers and minding little brother along with my other sister. My mom was already overwhelmed with my 4 older sisters and brothers.
She worked in the accounting department of Magnolia Petroleum’s Beaumont refinery. Magnolia Petroleum later became Mobil Oil then Exxon Mobil as we know it today. She commuted by the Beaumont City Bus Lines, boarding on Magnolia Ave then on to the Buford Street area (I think) toward the refinery’s employee entrance. My father worked in Magnolia’s blending and packaging plant at that time too.
Peggy always made certain that I had enough spending money to buy a little Christmas present for our mom! I remember one year salivating over a Schaeffer ink pen, chrome cap with a green body. What did I receive for Christmas from Peggy?? Yep, the green Schaeffer pen! I was cool.
A particularly fond memory is Peggy tousling son Andy’s hair at family get togethers in her home, always saying warmly and fondly “who is that!”
She and husband Steve Geraci raised 4 outstanding young men all of whom I feel close to. All bring good things to the table! I salute Stephen, Danny, Gary and Jerome and thank them for the caring, loving support they’ve given their parents and to our family at large.
Peggy has been a constant in my life, a loyal supporter and caring, loving older sister. I’m grateful for her in so many ways.
Rest in peace, Peggy. Your life was a well-lived, long one and we thank you for sharing so much of your life with us, especially me.
I love you.
God is good.
