One of my favorite nursing stories is of Polly interviewing me over the phone to work at Horizons Home Health while i was driving to see a patient for my current job. A mutual acquaintance told her i was looking for a new job. We hit it off immediately talking for over an hour. The sun was shining bright and i felt i was talking to a friend.  She asked how much i was looking to make? I told her, and she said with enthusiasm, “I could do better than that”  I have never till this day had someone offer me more than i requested. I tell this story because although she was a dynamic business women, she had a caring heart and her action cemented in my heart the unmerited favor of God in skin form. After well over a year there, I decided to take another opportunity, and Polly provided a stellar recommendation to my new/current employer. It has been about 14 years ago and working at Horizons are some of my fondest memories. Prayers for the family. JOB WELL DONE POLLY!

Nothing but fond memories of Polly Matlock , she was truly a great friend and a person that I admired in so many ways. When you think about frontier woman Polly Matlock would be leading that wagon train , you think of strong , resilient women from Texas that’s Polly Matlock . No BS from that gal , that was Polly !
That lady loved her family more than anybody I know , she loved God , and she loved to cook . Polly had a vision to build the most beautiful home on Loghill Co .
her vision came to life , every detail in that home had her full attention, an amazing piece of art and architectural. Polly was an inspiration to so many people in her life , we will all miss a very special person that made all our lives better knowing her . God bless Polly and her family .

Kristi, it’s been a long time since my bus driving days picking you up for many years. Your Mom or Dad was always there in the morning and to greet you after school. I ran into you & your Mom several years ago at outpatient pavillion, it was nice seeing both of you. I am so sorry for your loss, but I have no doubt that your Mom has taught you to be self sufficient. Please know my thoughts & prayers are with you and your Family.

Oh !! How does one describe Polly Matlock? LOL
Really, there are no words . My first question to God was how will I go on not talking to Polly every day discussing life, family, Memories, Recipes, Laughter, House plans, Barn building, politics, our frailties , sending pictures, Bob and Kristi, Derek Dawn and the grandkids, . She was most proud of grants show pig that one first place of course I have a picture of it.
If you ever met Polly Matlock, you never forgot her . I met Polly when I went to work with her in the early 80s. . No matter what part of the planet I was on and it came my birthday. Polly always call me. If she was your friend, she was your friend and if she did not care for you it didn’t take you long to know that either. She could light up the darkest room with her sheer joy of life.
She was a dedicated caregiver . To her family and everyone . Polly was the first person I called the day. I received a cancer diagnosis. Because at that time you can’t think I said oh Polly, what do I do? She said duh DJ you go to M D Anderson . .!!
She was a successful woman by her own wit , intelligence & hard work . She was one of the hardest working women I’ve ever known. And one of the brightest.
I could write a novel about Polly Matlock and it still would not cover the wonderful person and Friend she was to me .
Heaven gained a very bright shining star march the 11th !!
I can truly say my life was enriched by Polly Matlock’s friendship ! Which I cherish with all my heart we often said to each other we were sisters by different mothers .
I will forever miss you Polly, and you left a stamp on my heart . I do love you like a sister.

    Martha Bruce says:

What a special lady!! I pray the Lord will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus during this time….

    Toni Lynette Growe says:

Polly was a firecracker !! That’s the word that I would describe her -light- bright, and when she entered a room completely lit it up. She was a dear friend. We’ve been knowing each other and working together for over 10 years and it was a pleasure knowing her. We talked often after her retirement and of course almost daily while working. We shared plenty of pictures that she would send me, shared with me about family and friends and just her thoughts about different topics in general. I was heartbroken when she left this earthly world. I am a believer and believe she is truly in God’s arms.. She was courageous and bold and did not hesitate to say what was on her mind. She was also one of the most kindest person that I have known, I will truly miss her. I know that this must be a difficult time for Derrick Christie and Bob and all of her other family and friends, but I know that Polly, is it a better place and looking over all of us with her beautiful smile !

    Peggy Pitman says:

I always loved Polly. She was always so pleasant to be around. We went to school together in Silsbee. Ran into her several times when we lived in Beaumont and Polly was Polly. Always the same. She will be missed.
