Hazel Raye Norwood

October 2, 1941 - January 26, 2021

Hazel Raye Norwood, 79, of Silsbee, died Tuesday, January 26, 2021.  She was born on October 2, 1941, in Nederland, to Bicy Reeves Whitley and Kelly Whitley. 

Mrs. Norwood worked as an executive secretary for Texaco for two years in Port Arthur and four years in Houston.  She then worked for Silsbee Independent School District in the food service and also in the tax office.  Mrs. Norwood was the tax assessor collector for West Hardin Independent School District, retiring after several years.  She enjoyed volunteering and working at First Baptist Church in Silsbee in several various capacities.  Mrs. Norwood will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and Nanny.

Survivors include her husband of fifty-seven years, Dr. Jimmy Norwood; son, Don Norwood and his wife, Jill, and daughter, Jill Short, all of Silsbee; grandchildren, Evie Hart and her husband, Zach, of College Station and Carlie Short; sisters, her twin sister, Faye Martin and her husband, Jack, of Hemphill and Peggy Cowart and Janet Tollefson and her husband, Wayne, all of Nederland.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Bicy and Kelly Whitley and brother, Jimmy Whitley.

A gathering of Mrs. Norwood’s family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., with her funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 30, 2021, at First Baptist Church, 350 US 96 Business, Silsbee, under the direction of Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee.  Her interment will follow at R.S. Farmer Cemetery, Silsbee.
