Rebecca “Sissy” Sherian Dunagan

June 28, 1952 - August 8, 2022

Rebecca “Sissy” Sherian Dunagan was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world suddenly on August 8, 2022, at age 70.

She was born to J.D. Burnett and Lurline Wright on June 28, 1952. After graduating from high school, Rebecca attended and graduated from Lamar University to pursue her career as a nurse. Shortly after meeting Ronald Dale Clements, they got married and began their family. After being married for almost 30 years, Ronald passed suddenly in 2003.

As Rebecca’s life moved forward, a new chapter in her story began. She met a wonderful man by the name of James Dunagan III and over the next 17 years they built a life together. James lives in Nome, TX running working cattle ranch where they have enjoyed their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends company often. “Roping and Wrangling” became part of her everyday life, and she loved every minute of it!

Rebecca loved spending time shopping with her grandchildren, and always stopped by the Cheesecake Factory when she had a chance. In her early years, neighborhood children would always visit her home for the best sweet tea in town…that tea made “Sissy” a local celebrity. She always enjoyed “loading up” and going on the road with Jimbo as he attended rodeos across the country…she loved the cowboy way of life and watching Jimbo take home the prize.

Rebecca is preceded in death by her parents, Lurline Wright and JD Burnett and her brother, John Dewayne Burnett.

She is survived by her husband, James Dunagan III; her daughters, Tonya (Tim) Brunette, Nicole (Clint) West, and Misti West; bonus children, Keili (Shane) Paschal and Josh (Jaquline) Dunagan; grandchildren, Taylor, Josie, Jordyn, Hanna, McKenzie, Logan, Tori, Marissa, Mckinlee, Keaton, Preston, and Brooks; and great-grandchildren, Amzi, Westin, and Archer.

A gathering of Mrs. Dunagan’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, August 11, 2022, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 12, 2022, at Broussard’s, with her interment to follow at the family cemetery on Dunagan Ranch.
