Reggie Sattler
Philip Reginald “Reggie” Sattler., 72, of Hamshire died unexpectedly on Thursday, April 15, 2021. Although his passing was abrupt and unexpected, they’re grateful to have shared in part of his full life.
He was born on April 20th, 1948, in Port Neches, to Unita and Charles Sattler. Reggie was a Vietnam veteran who proudly served as sergeant of the 101st Airborne Division in the U.S. Army. He was awarded a Bronze Star Medal with “V” Device and a Purple Heart. After serving, he worked in the oilfield industry and later became a General Foreman for the last seventeen years.
Reggie was a kindhearted man who loved to serve, whether it be for his country, family, or friends. He was a loving father and dedicated husband who always enjoyed cooking, listening to music, hunting, fishing, and spending time with those who he held dear to him. He was well known for his witty humor, outgoing personality, and love for helping those in need. He will be forever missed, but always in our hearts.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Janette Sattler of Hamshire; son, Corey Sattler; daughter, Kimberly and her husband, Guy Broussard; stepsons, Tanner LeBlanc and Tye and wife, Brittney LeBlanc; grandchildren, Cody Broussard; Blake Broussard; Kayten Sattler; Victoria Allen; and Aiden LeBlanc; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial contributions for Mr. Sattler may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, New York 10306.
A gathering of Mr. Sattler’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, April 22, 2021, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer, Winnie. His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 23, 2021, at Broussard’s, with his interment with Military Honors to follow at Sattler Cemetery, Winnie.

Many memories of Reggie from HS and later on softball in Winnie! Remember well when Jimmy Cain, Glenn Melancon and I were in boot camp at Fort Polk! Reggie was stationed there and came by to visit! Reggie got into it with one of our Drill Instructors over us having a visitor! Anyway after he was forced to leave they gave us extra duty! Reggie was just a great guy everyone liked!!! RIP REGGIE!

Reggie and I played opposite each other in high school football games, we were in the Army at the same time, but we did not know one another until 1979 when we were roustabouts for Sunoco at Oyster Bayou. He was a great person to work with and to learn from. I have never seen a man work so hard, anticipate so well what to do next and keep the rest of us on our toes, and driving and operating the gang truck like a pro. He saved my life once and I will always be indebted to him for this. And he could make a miserable day pass quickly: when he glanced back at you with that twinkle in his eye and gave that mischievous wink, you got ready for an outstanding prank, and we all were victims. The last time I saw Reggie was in 1985 when I left the oilfield to go back to teaching. It was a big change for me, but thanks to Reggie, I understood the little boys in my class who couldn’t be still...recess. It was an honor to know him and to work beside him. Rest In Peace Reggie.
Donnie and Mary Beth Parker I am very proud to say that Reggie Sattler was one of my greatest and best loved friends! We became good friends the day we met each other and began working the same shift together at Goodyear Chemical Company in Beaumont in 1973! We hunted some together, but mainly we fished together at the lakes, bayous, the Gulf, and the bay, with our favorite fishing hole being the TGS Co. reservoirs at Moss Bluff in Liberty! My dad was Field Superintendent there so that gave us access any time we wanted! Unfortunately our time together was cut short when we were working one cold and rainy night at Goodyear when we were caught up in a number of major explosions that occurred there in 1974! We both were in the fire brigade there and were running to the unit the fire was in, along with quite a few other members as well when we were consumed in the shockwave of the first explosion! It blew me the width of a two lane street through the air and into a ditch, with everyone else following suit! I crawled out of the ditch and was in shock with both eardrums damaged and was badly disoriented! Reggie was not just a hero in Vietnam…he was my hero that night! He shook me and slapped me across the face and brought me back to my senses! He told me that I had to get it together because we had to get some water on the fire to help the operators working on the unit! We all hooked up and stretched out the hoses and opened up the fire water valve…but there was no water! Reggie then grabbed hold of me and said…we have got to get out of here boy, there is nothing more that we can do here now… and we ran to get away from the four other explosions that occurred that night! So to me…Reggie Sattler will always be my hero! He quite possibly saved my life that night! I was just a 20 year old boy and he had already been a 101st Airborne Ranger and seasoned veteran and hero from the war in Vietnam! We both went on to other jobs and remained friends throughout our lives but unfortunately due to the way we both worked, we very seldom got to see each other! But…when we did run into each other occasionally, it was just like we had never been apart, he had to be the friendliest person I have ever known! I feel so blessed to have known Reggie Sattler and to have had him for my friend! The news of Reggie’s passing saddened my heart immensely and was quite a shock to me! My heart goes out to Janette, Cory, and Kimberly as well as all of his family, including all that knew this wonderful man! I love you Reggie Sattler and I will look forward to seeing you again in Heaven one day my friend!
