Richard James Miller

July 2, 1948 - November 27, 2024

It is with deep sadness that the family of Richard James Miller announces his passing on November 27, 2024, at the age of 76. Richard was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, whose love, warmth, and generosity touched all who knew him.

Born on July 2, 1948, in Enid, Oklahoma, Richard was the son of Raymond Leroy Miller and Martha Rosetta McGann. He was raised in Enid and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. After graduation from Oklahoma State University, he went on to work in banking and law. He made homes in Dallas and Houston, Texas; and ultimately settled in Beaumont. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Martha, and his brother, Robert Dale Miller.

He is survived by his loving husband, Gregory Lane Wilson; his children, Lisa Melyn Savage and her husband, Joseph Francis Savage, along with their two children, Lucy and Nora; and his daughter, Julie Michelle Wilson and her husband Paschal Peolia Wilson and their two children, Paschal and Caroline; and his first spouse, Christine Anderson. Richard’s family was his greatest joy, and he leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, devotion, and laughter.

Richard had a tender heart, a fun personality, and a zest for life that made him beloved by all who crossed his path. He had a deep love for college football and was known for his enthusiastic spirit during every season. Richard never met a stranger – his ability to connect with people and make them feel welcome was one of his most remarkable qualities. Whether at a game, a gathering, of just out in the community, Richard’s smile and warmth drew people in, and everyone who met him walked away feeling like they had gained a friend.

One of Richard’s most cherished memories was dancing with his daughters during their annual dance recitals. He lovingly accompanied them in their father-daughter dances, creating memories that will live on in their hearts forever. Those moments of love and joy reflected the deep bond he shared with his children.

Richard also had a special love for studying his family ancestry, passing his findings on to his grandson Paschal, a fellow historian. In addition to his love for football and ancestry, Richard enjoyed volunteering in his community and spending time at the beach. His kindness, humor, and big heart left an indelible mark on the lives of those fortunate enough to know him.

Richard’s spirit will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will continue to inspire, comfort, and bring a smile to those who loved him.
