Richard Lee Sibley

October 31, 1943 - March 18, 2025

Richard Lee Sibley, 81, of Nederland, died Tuesday, March 18, 2025. He was born October 31, 1943, to Mayme C. Harrison Sibley and William Cecil Sibley.

Richard was a lifelong resident of Nederland. He graduated from Nederland High School and attended Lamar College. He worked out of the local carpenter union for many years in the Beaumont and Houston areas. His only out-of-state job was Plymouth Mass at a nuclear plant. Duane and I visited him frequently and explored historic sites, visited friends, and went to dog shows. He also served in the Army Reserve.

Summers were spent water skiing and camping on the river and Taylor’s Bayou. In the winter, snow skiing trips were family fun. Dog shows were also favorite family outings. Our grandson was a junior handler. Our family loved competing with our German Shepherd dogs.

Richard also enjoyed playing golf. He spent many hours on golf courses with family and friends.

After he retired, he worked for KITU TV in Orange, Texas. He worked in production, scheduling and maintenance. It was his favorite job.

Last fall, we spent about three months in Southern California visiting our grandson. We stayed in the mountains of North San Diego at a casita. It was a wonderful last family trip.

Richard was an elder at Word of Life Center. He loved the church and was there every Sunday and Wednesday night.

Richard is remembered for his laugh. He was blessed with a merry heart.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-two years, Charlotte Sibley; child, Duane Richard Sibley; grandchild, Duane Wesley Sibley and wife, Crystal; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Tyrus Sibley, Charles Sibley, Joe Sibley, Daune Sibley, and Glenn Sibley; and sister, Dorothy Greene.

A gathering of Mr. Sibley’s family and friends will begin at 12:00 p.m., with his memorial service at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Word of Life Center, 6740 25th Street, Groves, Texas 77619.

His cremation arrangements were handled through Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland.
