Robbie Wells

June 9, 1949 - December 20, 2024

Robbie Wells, 75, of China, died Friday, December 20, 2024, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Houston. He was born on June 9, 1949, to Charline Teresa Blanchard Wells and Robert Eugene Wells II, in Beaumont.

Robbie can best be described as a man of simple needs. The first time he was introduced to Google, we told him he could ask Google anything, and we asked him what he really wanted to know. His response was, “What’s the biggest catfish ever caught in Texas?” (It’s a 121.5 pound blue catfish, in case you wondered.) As simple as his own needs were, his gestures for others were grand. He would do anything to put a smile on your face or make your life a little easier. His own dad died when he was only two, and it was always amazing that although he never had a true guide for how to be a dad, he simply knocked it out of the park. He worked tirelessly for his family, always providing everything we needed, but despite that, he was never too busy to take his girls fishing, build us clubhouses in the woods, coach teams, or find a solution to any problem that we had. Having him as a dad was like having your own “how-to” book at your disposal. There was nothing he didn’t know and nothing he couldn’t fix. Robbie never had a traditional approach to romance. Romance for him was making sure the yard was always mowed, vehicles were taken care of, and he was always willing to do absolutely anything we told him our Mama wanted. He was a proud Catholic his entire life, and he made sure a deep faith was instilled in all of his children. He loved his mother dearly, and once she was older and in a nursing facility, he would take us at least once a week, without fail, and we would visit with her for hours. He would get in his truck, day or night, and come to the rescue of anyone who called him, even if they were hours away, and he was never too busy to lend an ear or take you to get a, “bite to eat.” He didn’t just tell us that we always had to make time for the people we love, even if it’s inconvenient, he lived it. As simple of a man as Robbie was, he was simply always there. Missing him will be as familiar as breathing.

Survivors include his loving wife of over forty-six years, Melody Wells; children, Calla Nicole Wells and her wife, Monica, Lindsey Beth McClung and her husband, Walter, and Taylor Elise Russell and her husband, Ty; grandchildren, Cody McClung, Luke Jones, Brody Russell, and Penelope Russell; sister, Bonnie Nell Sirmons and her husband, Larry; nephews, Robert Sirmons, Russell Sirmons, and Taylor Koch; and numerous extended family, loved ones, and friends through the years.

He is preceded in death by his parents and countless family and friends he dearly loved.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, P.O. Box 38, China, Texas 77613 or Sleep in Heavenly Peace, 2950 Milam Street, Beaumont, Texas 77701.

I ran into Robbie a few years ago, when my wife and I were on a Sunday afternoon ride. I found myself reminiscing on Kolander road. I was remembering when my childhood neighbor PeeWee used to take my me and my brothers to work on the farm. Running into Robbie brought back so many memories. We talked on the phone a few times since. I am really glad we rekindled a long-lost friendship. Rest well, my friend.

My condolences to your family, may The Comforter visit you.
