Roger O. Purkiss

April 22, 1944 - November 15, 2021

Roger O. Purkiss, 77, of Wildwood, died Monday, November 15, 2021. He was born on April 22, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan, to Vera Virginia Booker and Guy Bromfield Purkiss, Jr. Roger was a United States Navy veteran, having served in the Vietnam War. He retired as Vice President from Del Papa Distributing after twenty years of employment.

He enjoyed fishing, his dogs, Sissy and Daisy, and being with people. Roger will be remembered as a loving father, brother, and gramps..

He is survived by his son, Mike Purkiss and his wife, Amy, of Lake Jackson; granddaughters, Madison Purkiss Holland and her husband, Randy, of  Oyster Creek  and Kendyl Brawley and her fiancé, Carlin Georgie, of Jones Creek; sisters, Lisa Pepper and her husband, Jack, of Boone, North Carolina and Lori Edgington, of Jupiter, Florida; brothers, Todd and Mark Purkiss, of Detroit, Michigan; and sister-in-law,  Carolyn Purkiss, of Edgewood, New Mexico; and his faithful canine companions, Sissy and Daisy.

Roger is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jennifer Rae Purkiss; brother, Guy Purkiss; and sister, Wendy Gray.

A memorial service for Mr. Purkiss will be 4:00 p.m., Thursday, December 2, 2021, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His cremation arrangements were handled through Broussard’s, Crematorium, Beaumont.

    OH my heart is broken to hear this news. Roger always called me baby girl.
    Was like a father to me. My friend from the 90’s. He had a heart of Gold and compassion for people and had humor and Witt to go with it. I will truly miss you ( Uncle Roger.) We Will meet again my sweet friend.

    I first met Roger in early 70s. I was a Kroger store manager in Galveston and he was my Budweiser representative. We developed a friendship that lasted for 50 years. No one made you feel better than Roger. I will miss our heart to heart conversations. Rest In Peace my friend. Roy Birkelbach
