To say that Rose Crenshaw “never met a stranger” feels like an understatement; to Rose, a stranger was simply a friend she hadn’t fed yet. Her spirit was defined by an open door and an even more open heart.

Growing up around the Crenshaw home, I quickly learned that being a friend of her children meant being considered family. There was no standing on ceremony and no need to knock. nowhere was this more evident than in her kitchen.

I have the fondest memories of our legendary “Second Thanksgivings.” Long after the official meal was over and the house had quieted down, her son Tim, our friend Steve Copeland, and I would sneak back into the kitchen. We would stage a late-night raid on Rose’s refrigerator, piling up leftovers and laughing in the dim light. Rose never scolded us for the intrusion; in fact, you got the feeling that she stocked the fridge specifically knowing we would be there.

She created a space where we felt safe, seen, and welcome. Rose didn’t just host us; she mothered us with warmth and generosity. She will be deeply missed, but I know her table in heaven is already set, and the door is wide open.

    Alison Liszewski says:

When I think of Cousin Rose I see her bright smile, that twinkle in her eyes, and her kind and loving ways. Alway positive and ready to laugh I will treasure the times we spent together. To her Husband Cleo and children Tammy, Joani, Tim and Jim and all her Grandchildren I know this is a huge loss and I hope that knowing how much her bright light touched us is of small comfort to you. Much Love to you all.

    Mary Liszewski Mills says:

I will remember my 1st cousin Rose more like my Aunt since my Mother Aunt Jean was just only a few years old than she. There were many visits with her & Cleo & their children my 2nd cousins when we were young & close in age. I’ll cherish those memories & hold her in my heart forever. Rest in peace cussin’ Rose as Daddy (John) would call her. All my love

    Marie Stelly says:

My heart aches to know that Rose is no longer with us. We had such good times together.
    Peace be with you.
