Rose Marie Latta

February 3, 1930 - February 26, 2020

Rose Marie Latta, 90, of LaBelle, passed away at Oak Grove Nursing Home, in Groves, on Wednesday, February 26, 2020.

She was born on February 3, 1930, in Hamshire, Texas, to Ola Broussard Royer and Clovis Royer. She was one of five children born to the couple. She attended Fannett school with her future husband, Walter William Latta, and they were married for 63 years before his passing in November of 2011. He always told us he married the prettiest girl in school.

Mom was a great “Domestic Engineer”. She and Dad together raised four children, sometimes on a very small budget. She kept the household going while he was out raising rice and herding cattle. Mom was a wonderful artist, painting on many different mediums such as china, wood, clothes and canvas. She was an excellent seamstress and cook, would raise the orphan calves Dad would bring home, drive a tractor when needed and loved to fish. Invariably, while fishing, she would somehow manage to fall out of the boat, never wore a life jacket and couldn’t swim a lick.

Rose is survived by her four children, Mike (Karen) Latta, Leslie (Alton) Martin and Mark Latta, all of LaBelle and Ola (Kenny) Shipp of Fannett; six grandchildren, Melissa (David) Gaus, Chris (Angie) Latta, Andy, Josh (Stephanie) and Sean Martin and Cameron Shipp; ten great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hazel VonFeldt of Denver, Colorado and Joyce Kiker of Spring, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Beatrice Mott; and brother, Wilfred Royer.

Mom loved God, her family and her church. She was always willing to lend a helping hand, especially with taking care of her grandchildren when needed. If she couldn’t physically help, she would ask what she could buy to help.

A gathering of Mrs. Latta’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., Sunday, March 1, 2020, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 2, 2020, at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, 4445 Avenue A, Beaumont. Her interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Winnie.

While we will all miss her, we all know that Dad is smiling right now at his prettiest girl.
