Rosemary Borland Dean

July 6, 1934 - January 22, 2023

Rosemary Borland Dean, 88, died Sunday, January 22, 2023, at Christus Southeast Texas – St. Elizabeth Hospital, Beaumont. She was born July 6, 1934, in Cotton Valley, Louisiana, to Grace Shaw Borland and Alvin Borland.

Rosemary was raised in Cotton Valley, Louisiana with her sister, Ann. She graduated from Cotton Valley High School, where she was Homecoming Queen. She then graduated from Louisiana Tech with a teaching degree. Rosemary married Bruce Dean in 1962 and they had a son, Kevin, in 1964.

They lived in several cities in the south related to Bruce’s employment as a chemical engineer with International Paper Company. They lived in Springhill, LA, Camden, AR, Mobile, AL and Texarkana, TX where they ultimately retired. Everywhere they lived they met new friends. Rosemary was active in her communities, her churches as a Sunday school teacher and Kevin’s schools. After Kevin was grown, Rosemary worked tirelessly at the Mission Texarkana Friendship Center helping people with food, financial aid, clothing, skills training and employment. She found the volunteer work both demanding and rewarding.

Rosemary & Bruce relocated to Beaumont, TX in 2012 to be near their family, Kevin, Amy, Benjamin & Matthew. Rosemary cherished all the great times especially watching Benjamin & Matthew grow up. She oversaw sleepovers, birthday parties & family gatherings while maintaining friendships with people she’d met over the years. Rosemary never turned down prayer & fellowship, a person in need, or a good long phone conversation with her sister, Ann.

We would like to thank all of her wonderful caregivers over the last few years. Their care was such an amazing act of love. We’d also like to thank the late Dr. George Thomas, Dr. K. Senthilkumar, Dr. Emmett Mackan, Dr. Iumy Torres, Dr. Ian Angel, Dr. Allen McGrew, Dr. Jackson Porter and all of their office staff for their excellent care.

Rosemary is survived by her children, Dr. Kevin Dean and his wife, Amy; grandchildren, Benjamin Dean and Matthew Dean; and sister, Ann Beasley and her husband, Bill, of Jonesboro, Arkansas.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Bruce Dean.

A gathering of Mrs. Dean’s family and friends will be from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m., Thursday, January 26, 2023, at the residence of Dr. Kevin and Amy Dean. The family will gather for her interment at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 27, 2023, at Old Sarepta Cemetery in Sarepta, Louisiana under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.
