Roy Vernon Bowden

April 24, 1927 - November 27, 2020

Roy Vernon Bowden, 93, of Groves, died Friday, November 27, 2020. He was born April 24, 1927, in Detroit, Michigan, to Margret Deane Bowden and Harold Bowden.

Roy was a United States Army Air Corps veteran having served during World War II. He retired from DuPont Sabine River Works after over twenty-five years of service. He was proud to be involved in his community as a member of the WMGA; Masonic Order; Lions Club; Junior Chamber of Commerce; Boy Scouts of America; and was a Scout Master. He also practiced horology repairing watches and clocks. Roy was known as an extremely patient man. After retirement, he lived in Wildwood for thirty years.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-nine years, Joyce Bowden; sons, Thomas D. Bowden, of Groves and Kevin A. Bowden and wife, Linda, of Nederland; sisters, Verna J. Mosby, of Warren; Barbara A. English and husband, Chris, of Houston; and Lois Stone, of South Carolina; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Margret and Harold Bowden; and brother, Harold Bowden.

A graveside service for Mr. Bowden will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 30, 2020, at Village Mills Cemetery, Village Mills Cemetery Road off Highway 287, Warren, Texas, under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 2350 Interstate Highway 10 East, Beaumont, Texas 77704.
