Samuel M. Ainsworth, PhD
Sam Ainsworth, PhD, 80, of Pineville, Louisiana, died Monday, September 19, 2022, at his residence. He was born November 18, 1941, in Selma, Alabama, to Ruby Lee Cathey Ainsworth and Madison Morgan Ainsworth. Sam was a United States Air Force veteran and a fifty-year Endowed Member of Abe Hinson Masonic Lodge #472 F. & A.M. in Alexandria, Louisiana.
Sam grew up in Camden, Arkansas where he graduated from Camden High School in 1959. He went on to earn a PhD in Clinical Microbiology and retired from the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Pineville, Louisiana, after twenty-five years of service.
Sam is survived by his wife of sixty years, Linda Little Ainsworth of Pineville, Louisiana; son, Brent Ainsworth of Beaumont, Texas; daughter, Laura Ainsworth Nelson and her partner, Mr. Dana Hass, of Colorado Springs, Colorado. He will be remembered as “Daddy Sam” to his grandchildren, Emily Ainsworth and her fiancé, Matt Douzart; Davis Nelson; Erin Finley; and Katherine Nelson and his two great-grandchildren Shyanne and Rowan. He is also survived by his sister, Linda Ainsworth Adams of Helotes, Texas; nephews, David and Drew Adams and Anson Ainsworth; and niece, Staci McGree.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Steve Ainsworth; nephew, Allen Ainsworth; brother-in-law, Bill Adams; and sister-in-law, Susan Ainsworth.
A gathering of Dr. Ainsworth’s family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m., with his funeral service and Masonic Committal at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 24, 2022, at Kramer Funeral Home, 2905 Masonic Drive, Alexandria, Louisiana 71301. His cremation arrangements will be handled through Broussard’s Crematorium, under the direction of Broussard’s Mortuary in Beaumont, Texas.
