Sandra Louise Bailey Meloncon

September 24, 1941 - March 17, 2026

Sandra Louis Bailey Meloncon, 84, of Hamshire died Tuesday, March 17, 2026. She was born on September 24, 1941, in Port Arthur, to Willie and Teeny Bailey.

Sandra was a true partner to her husband, Joe, for 54 years of marriage until his death. She was the quiet force behind their partnership making sure all the details were taken care of and everyone had what they needed. Sandra was the epitome of what it means to be a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a woman of unshakable faith. Throughout her life, she faced every challenge with dignity, courage, and grace, showing all of us what true strength looks like with quiet perseverance, endless love and devotion to her faith. Through her words and her actions, even in her final days after she had forgotten all of us, her faith never faltered. She continued to pray the rosary even without the beads.

She was most proud of the success of her children that rests in large part in her commitment to and belief that education and knowledge opened doors to not only opportunities but to the wide world. From the trips to the book mobile to all the driving for our various commitments, she made sure we were prepared to find our way. She supported all children wholeheartedly, encouraging them to pursue their dreams no matter how big or small. Whether it was sitting in the stands cheering us on, offering wise advice during difficult times, or simply being there to listen, her support never wavered. She had a way of making each of us feel seen, valued, and deeply loved.

She was committed to her family, friends, and community, and could always be counted on to help and support other. She had a generosity and spirit that was always welcoming and nurturing. She lived as she wanted others to be—honest, humble, compassionate, giving. She also volunteered as a local troop leader for the Girls Scouts of America, and continued that commitment to the organization for over 25 years. The Texas Cattlemen’s Association honored her and Joe for their long-standing commitment to the community and the ideals of the organization.

Hers was a quiet, focused life but one rich in laughs and love guided by her deep faith. She will be remembered for her quiet grace, defiant stubbornness, intense strength and gentle spirit. Sandra’s greatest gift to her children, the children she helped raise, her sisters, her nieces and nephews, and the many people who knew her is this: one must love with your whole heart and spirit, without reservations. There are no half measures. You must throw your whole self, mind, body, and soul, into it, and to do that, you must be strong and fearless. To love and to be loved, you must be fierce. This is a strong legacy indeed.

She is survived daughters, Janet Lemons and her husband, Riley,; Melissa Armentor and her husband, Mark; and Lisa Meloncon and her husband, Harry Posner; grandsons, Coby Armentor, of Stowell; Jacob Armentor and his wife, Dusty; Daniel Armentor and his wife, Jaime; and Nicholas Quintana; great-granddaughters, Brooklyne Grace Armentor, Katy Jones and Landry Mae Armentor; great-grandson, Luke Armentor; and sister, Barbara Bailey Breaux.

Sandra was preceded in death by her husband, Joe E. Meloncon, her son, Dennis, her parents Willie and Teeny Bailey, and her sister, Patricia Bailey Dunlap Williams.

As many know, Alzheimer’s is a degenerative brain disease that effects memory and other brain functions, and in its the latter stages, it is the most common cause of dementia, which is a broader umbrella term of a host of symptoms. Alzheimer’s is an insidious disease. Because of the creeping nature of it and the familiarity of the person sometimes makes it hard to see. It creeps up a little at a time until the person you knew and loved is someone else entirely. If you feel want to remember her, please make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association.

A gathering of Mrs. Meloncon’s family and friends will be at 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., Sunday, March 22, 2026, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. I’m so sorry about Sandra. We had such a wonderful time together. I made a turn and now live in Bridge City so I do remember our times constantly. I go get gas and know where I’m standing where you your grandma and grandpa lived. We are only 6 days apart in age. Know that I’m thinking of all of you right now and my prayers are with you. Love to all you girls. Please tell them for me.
