Shirley N. Rhoden

May 5, 1938 - May 10, 2023

Shirley N. Rhoden, 85, of Nederland, died Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at The Medical Center of Southeast Texas. She was born May 5, 1938, in Tontitown, Arkansas, to Cleta Autry Eldridge and David Herman Eldridge.

Survivors include her children, Sheila Rhoden Guillot and husband, Robert, of Nederland and Jimmy Rhoden and wife, Becky, of Timpson; grandchildren, Garrett Guillot and wife, Harley; Maggie Guillot; Kristi Porter and husband, Aron; Nick Talbert and wife, Jaime; and Jonathan Talbert and wife, Victoria; great-grandchildren, Ariel Cunningham; Ethan Porter; Owen Porter; Cayson Porter; Lucy Talbert; Bailey Talbert; Lily Talbert; Shelly Talbert; Enya Talbert; and Ty Talbert; brothers-in-law, Robert Rhoden and wife, Evelyn and Jessie Rhoden and wife, Faye; sister-in-law, Joetta Misterek and husband, Steve; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Otis J. Rhoden, Jr.; son, Darren Rhoden; and siblings, Audrey Mealer; Coy Eldridge; Dale Eldridge; Bob Eldridge; Ollie Eldridge; and Wayne Eldridge.

Shirley was a member of the Red Hats Society for many years. She also was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Jefferson County.  Her favorite activity was serving as a hospital volunteer, a “Blue Angel,” at The Medical Center of Southeast Texas. She served as the president for quite a few years.  She served in different capacities and loved the group of volunteers.  She loved helping and serving others.

Shirley loved travel and was always ready for a new adventure. She traveled with family and friends—from across the United States to Europe and back again.

She was a “lunch lady” and then a food service manager for over 30 years with the Nederland Independent School District. She was a great cook.  Her family had their favorites.

A gathering of Mrs. Rhoden’s family and friends will begin at 2:00 p.m., with her funeral service at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, May 14, 2023, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Her cremation arrangements will be handled through Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont.
