Somasundaram Muthuraju
Somasundaram Muthuraju (65), born on June 10, 1960, in Kuruvikulam, India, passed away on September 22, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Somasundaram Muthuraju, fondly known as Roger or Raju, was one of the smartest, funniest, and most outgoing people you could have ever met. In his college days, Raju knew he wanted to be in the medical field and began that journey by pursuing a bachelor’s in zoology. However, he switched career paths and pursued a bachelor’s in physical therapy for a better opportunity to provide for his family. While he became a physical therapist for alternative reasons, he found joy in treating geriatric patients and caring for and improving their lives.
Through Raju’s career change, he met the love of his life, Padmalochini Natarajan, and his best friends. With their support, he came to America to build a life based on a childhood dream with little to nothing in his pockets. Together, through hard work and dedication, he and his wife built a home and a life filled with laughter and unforgettable memories with their three daughters. Raju loved to spend his time watching Tamil movies, exploring new places and experiences with his family and friends, and working. He continued to work until he passed because he loved helping his patients and enjoyed the genuine connections that he had built with them. He enjoyed having in-depth conversations with anybody he met, whether it was at work, at the grocery store, or while taking a stroll down the street, as he was always ready to make a new friend. His positivity and humor in the everyday things of life will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Raju is survived by his beloved wife of thirty-three years, Padmalochini Natarajan and children, Sudha Muthuraju and her spouse, Weston Merbach, of Beaumont, Sowmiya Muthuraju, and Supritha Muthuraju. He is also survived and loved by his four dogs, Nala, Simba, Kovu, and Finley.
In addition to flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 42040, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73123 or the National Cancer Institute, Building 31 Room 11A-16, 9000 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, Maryland 20892 in Raju’s memory.
He will be deeply missed and remembered by those who loved and knew him.
A gathering of Mr. Muthuraju family and friends will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Sunday, September 28, 2025, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His cremation arrangements were handled through Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont.

Padma and family
I lost my father 18 months ago and part of me was taken away that day. Muthuraju’s passing has had the same effect on me as the day I lost my father. Jyoti sat on the India Association Committee with him. She tells me what a kind, thoughtful, fair and generous person he was.
Always thinking of family friends and his patients. I personally experienced how his patients adored him at the hospital.
Always greeted others with kind words and a wonderful smile !!!
A big loss to our community and all the lives he touched. He will be dearly missed!
Our prayers and condolences to your family during this difficult time

Dear Padma ji and Family,
Suja and I are heartbroken to hear about the passing of Raju (Daddy). He was such a down-to-earth, caring, and warm person — every meeting with him, whether at the grocery store, movie theater, temple, or anywhere else, left us with joy. It’s no wonder people so lovingly called him Daddy; he truly lived that way, embracing everyone with kindness and affection.
Padma ji, I remember you often sharing about your father in India not doing well, and never did we imagine that Muthuraju himself had health issues. This news has come as such a shock, and we cannot express how deeply saddened we are.
We pray that God gives you and your daughters the strength and courage to face this loss and emerge strong as a family. Muthuraju will always be remembered with love in our hearts.
Om Shanthi…
With deepest sympathy and prayers,
Suja & Sankar
