Spencer Davis Armour, Jr.
Spencer Davis Armour, Jr., 91, of Silsbee, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. He was born April 25, 1933, in Sabine Parish, Louisiana, to Mary Goss Armour and Spencer Davis Armour, Sr.
He was the oldest of three boys and grew up with a deep love for the outdoors and a strong work ethic that carried him throughout his life.
A self-made businessman, Spencer founded and operated Armour J. Auto Salvage for 50 years. It all started when he bought a wrecked 1953 Oldsmobile from its owner for $16.50 in 1960. From there, he went on to invest every nickel and minute in a risky business venture that became one of the largest auto salvage yards this side of Waco.
Spencer took great pride in his work and building a life rooted in dedication, community, and integrity. He loved being a resident of Silsbee and sharing his success through his generosity with those in the community. He served on the Silsbee City Council in the 1970s and was a board member at First National Bank of Silsbee. He was also a longtime member of First Baptist Church Silsbee.
Spencer had a deep appreciation for nature. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors—especially if it involved operating machinery. Whether he was bush hogging a field or bulldozing a path through the woods, he was happiest under an open sky. In his younger years, he could often be found on the golf course at Silsbee Country Club, enjoying the game and the camaraderie.
He never met a stranger and made friends wherever he went. His quick wit and easy smile left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Spencer was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-three years, Sammie Cole Armour; his parents; and his brothers, Bob Armour and Jimmy Armour. Survivors include his son, Spencer Armour, III and his wife, Becky, of Midland; daughter, Amy Armour Montanari and her husband, Joe, of Beaumont; grandchildren, Emily Serold and her husband, Craig, of Dallas; Spencer “Davis” Armour, IV of Fort Worth; Madison Montanari of Dallas; and Maret Montanari of Beaumont; great-grandchildren, Claire, Sam, and Gracie Serold; Spencer “Quinn” V and Violet Armour; and numerous extended family members and dear friends.
Our family would like to express our endless gratitude to Virgie for the love and compassion she showed Spencer in his final years. She was Sammie’s caregiver starting in 2019 and began caring for Spencer soon after Sammie’s passing and became his best friend and confidante. Virgie will always be a special member of our family.
A great big thank you to the Silsbee Police Department Officers Rogers, Brown, and Ramirez for their kindness after Spencer’s passing along with the lights and siren display as they left his home. He would have loved the special sendoff. Our appreciation and thanks also go out to Heart-to-Heart Hospice of Jasper for their guidance, compassion, and exceptional care.

So sorry for your Loss. Sending Prayers and Love. Spencer was a Great Neighbor and loved hearing his stories about the neighborhood and when I our house was built. I am sad that he has passed but I know he is smiling knowing that he is with the Love of his life again. He will be missed and knowing that we will not have the wave every time he passed by or even a short conversion asking how he day is going. I just know the Gardens in Heaven will be plenty.
It was a privilege and pleasure to know Mr. Armour . Condolences to his family.
Rest in peace.

Sorry for your loss! Lots of childhood memories with Mr Armour J and his business. My dad worked for him most of my childhood! I bet him and my dad Glenn McWilliams are catching up like old times! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I first met Spencer back in the late 1970’s I guess it was. I have worked in collision repair shops and worked as an insurance appraiser a couple of times in my 50+ year career. I can’t begin to calculate how many dollars in parts that we bought from Mr. Armour, and the numerous, great conversations we shared about anything and everything. Spencer was a very good and successful businessman and one of the “Last Mohicans” insofar as being an old fashioned business man with good old fashioned ethics. I will not be able to attend the funeral due to a conflicting doctor’s appointment, but my prayers will be with you all.
To the Armour family I am deeply saddened to hear the passing of Spencer. He was a great man and will be missed by many. Sending hugs and prayers.

I’m smiling today thinking of how much I looked forward to Spenser’s visits to Sabine Parish as a child and teenager. It always made me happy to see he and Jimmy. Maybe that was because I remember how excited Mom (Sue Walker) got when she knew they were coming. She baked pies in preparation for the visit. There were always funny and mischievous stories told when those two came! ❤️

What a loss or Silsbee and Hardin County. 91 years is a great run and Spencer’s life proves that.
We are sad for the loss of a great man. Our family will forever be greater for the time we had Sammie and Spenser in it. Prayers to everyone hurting today.
