Stella Grace Fleming Campisi

August 29, 1927 - April 11, 2025

Stella Grace Fleming Campisi, 97, of Beaumont, died Friday, April 11, 2025. She was born on August 29, 1927, in Huxley, Texas to Velma Lee Davis Fleming and William Jerrell Fleming.

She survived the great depression and lost both of her parents at an early age. She was a graduate of Joaquin/Shelbyville High School. Right after graduation, she worked at Consolidated Shipyard in Orange, Texas- helping out with the World War II effort. She then went on to work for Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator. After that she became a LVN for both Baptist Hospital and Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Following her hospital experience, she did private duty nursing, leaving a lasting impression on all she encountered. All of her patients became lasting friends.

Grace and Joe were married for 58 years, and were blessed with three children, seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends that she loved dearly. She also was noted for caring for others, especially David and Gwen, and always having an open and welcoming home.

She loved the beach, traveling, cooking, sewing, crocheting, the casino, and making Christmas stockings for the grandkids. People from all over Beaumont would come at Halloween to enjoy her popcorn balls. Her specialties that everyone enjoyed was her meatballs and spaghetti, rice balls, and chocolate pies. She attended St. Anthony’s Cathedral and was very involved in the church, school, and Alter Society. She was also active in the Aggies Mom Club and very involved in her children and grandchildren’s activities. She was driven by passion to help others and always spoke her mind.

Her survivors include her son, Paul “Rocky” Campisi and his wife, Melinda, of Beaumont; daughter, Jo Ann Hughes and her husband, Buddy, of Sour Lake; and son, Dale Campisi, of Spring, Texas. Grandchildren include; Jason Alan Hughes of Sour Lake; Justin Lloyd Hughes and his wife, Joy, of Sour Lake; Jessica Hughes and her husband, Rick Head, of Sour Lake; Jessica Campisi of Las Cruces, New Mexico; Caitlin Campisi and her husband, Josh Gifford, of El Paso; Mandy Campisi of El Paso; and Jacob Campisi of Spring. Great-grandchildren include; Brianna Hughes, Kolt Hughes, Emily Simmons and her husband, Ty; Christian Plaisance, Tyler French, London Easlon, Delilah Hughes, and Mackenzie Gifford.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Joe Campisi; parents, William and Velma Fleming; brother, Melvin Truitt Fleming; sister in-law, Marie Fleming; and daughter in-law, Debbie Campisi.

The family would like to recognize all the staff at Hospice Care Team, Some Other Place, caregivers, and others for their compassion and care. Special thanks to Joey, Amanda, Kellye, Doris, Angel S., Saylor, and Chaplains Belinda and Nathan. Also, Mary, Barbara, Benette, Lachrisha, Bobby, Ernest, Alice, and David. An extra special thank you to Deacon Kim and his wife Denise.

A gathering of Mrs. Campisi’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. Her funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at Broussard’s, with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.

    Thankfully I had the privilege of being able to take care of mawmaw (miss grace) from day one she treated me with so much love , she was always smiling we always spoke about God , listen to her Bible machine , prayed together , laughed together, cried together . She was the sweetest lady I have ever had the honor of taking care of . I miss you so much already maw specially today tonight I would of been coming into work walking in seeing you smile would bring any sadness or things I was going through in life disappear. I love you to the moon and back. Thank you to all the family who always treated me like family and was so sweet I’ll never ever forger any of this family . I am very sad you are gone but I I also know you are not in any more pain and your with your family. You told me often when we get to heaven we want know each other but I feel i will know you and your momma y’all were my angels. Rip!
