Sue Brasseaux
Sue Louise Barkley Brasseaux was born on June 14, 1933, and passed away on August 23, 2021. Sue was born to Bennie B Barkley and Louise Graoenberg Barkley in Oklahoma City and moved to Beaumont when she was six years old where she attended South Park schools. She married Bien Brasseaux and was married 54 years before his passing in 2008.
Sue was very involved in Rainbow Girls where she was awarded the Grand Cross of Colors and Worthy Advisor award.
Sue attended Southwestern University Georgetown where she was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Methodist Women’s Society and Delta Zeta Sorority. She also attended Lamar University where she completed her Bachelors of Science and a Professional Counselor Certificate. She also received her Masters of Education from McNeese University.
Sue spent the next 30 years serving the community and teaching children. She had a passion for children and taught second grade at Pine Forest Elementary in Vidor where she touched hundreds of student’s lives. During her time in education, she willingly took on many leadership roles and also volunteered her time to help others. She was selected as Outstanding Elementary Teacher of America before her retirement in 1994.
Sue was a lifelong member of Trinity Methodist church where she grew up and later served in many areas. She taught Sunday school, VBS, Sang in Choirs, and volunteered in the office, acted as officers for her Sunday School classes, and worked every year with the garage sale.
Sue Brasseaux is survived by her son, Brian Brasseaux and wife, Lisa; three grandchildren, Brandon Brasseaux and wife, Sarah; Brittany Billingsley and husband, Trey; and Brooke Brasseaux; and five great-grandchildren, Tatum Brasseaux, Londyn Brasseaux, Whitley Kate Brasseaux, Kayden Billingsley and Trevor Billingsley.
The family would like to thank Wanda Menefee and Cynthia Daniels for taking such good care of Sue in her last year of life; for treating her as if she were a member of their own family. We would not have been able to care for Sue without you. We also appreciate the Texas Total Hospice staff. Your care was very kind and personal and your support for the family went far beyond meeting medical needs.
A gathering of Mrs. Brasseaux’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, August 29, 2021, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 30, 2021, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 3430 Harrison Avenue, Beaumont. Her interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Choir Scholarship at Trinity United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 5247, Beaumont, Texas 77726.

I am Sue’s great neice Jessica Barkley something told me to look her up finding this I’m heartbroken as I was taken to fort Worth as a child and haven’t seen Aunt Sue since I was 8 I’m so saddened
Ms Brasseaux was my second grade teachers at Pine Forest Elementary, she was definitely one of my favorite teachers that has never left my mind. She made learning fun! Rest In Peace.
Mrs. Brasseaux was one of my teachers at Pine Forest Elem in 1990. She was one of my favorite teachers. I am sad to hear of her passing, my prayers and condolences to the family. Mrs. Brasseaux was a stern teacher but she loved her students.

I am so sorry to hear that Sue had passed away. I taught first grade and she taught second grade at Pine Forest. We carpooled for many years going to school. She loved her family so much and was proud of everyone of you. Sue was a very special friend and I am saddened. We shared so many experiences together. May our Lord wrap his loving arms around you at this sad time and give you the comfort that only He can give. Prayers are with you, Brian, Lisa, Brandon, Brittany, and Brooke.
Mrs. Sue was so sweet! My grandmother has shared so many memories with her.
After one of the dance competitions our daughter was in, Mrs. Sue sent the most thoughtful little gift and lovely note to her.

Sue was wonderful and one of my dearest and oldest friends. I am so glad she and her family were able to make the trip and be part of the surprise party my family thru me.
There are so many memories that I will cherish.
We are so sorry to hear about Sue’s passing. We worked together at Pine Forest Elementary school. She was a wonderful teacher, respected by her students and coworkers alike. May she rest in the peace of Christ.
I am deeply saddened by the passing Sue. She was a dear sweet lady that I was privileged to call my friend for many years. We met while teaching at Pine Forest Elementary. I will miss my friend and sister in Eastern Star. My deepest sympathy to the family.
Sue and I were childhood friends as in five and six years old. We had many funny memories that we shared from time to time when we would talk. My heart goes out to the family. Her family was her heart and soul and we would talk about them when we visited. Rest in peace dear friend.
I remember having her as my 2nd grade teacher at Pine Forest. She was very kind. My prayers are with her family.❤️
