Susan A. Neil

June 9, 1955 - October 19, 2022

Susan A. Neil, 67, of Orange, received her ultimate healing and her new glorified body on October 19, 2022. Susan now resides in Heaven with her Lord Jesus and her family that preceded her. Susan fought stage 4 cancer for over five years with stubbornness and a hopeful spirit that she might get better.

Susan was born June 9, 1955, in Beaumont, Texas, to Thomas Mardez Abercrombie and Laura Alice Victery Abercrombie. She was the oldest and first girl in the family. Susan was educated in the Lumberton School District where she attended all 12 years, graduating in 1973. She then attended LIT to obtain an associate degree in Drafting. She was employed by Richard Design Services in Nederland. She had dreams of getting well enough to continue working.

She led a full and fruitful life, enjoying many things and “never knew when to quit”. Her true love were horses and the other menagerie of farm animals, cats, and dogs who she treated as special as a child. It was not unusual to find Susan getting ready for horseback riding, team penning, or fence building in the afternoons and over the weekends. There was nothing on four legs that she did not love.

Susan poured her life and finances into family and friends. She was never selfish with anything and would be quietly providing food, clothes, houses, and cars. If Susan knew of a need, she just took care of it. Her love for others was tangible to everyone who knew her. She just stood in the background saying nothing about “the needs before her”, just seeing where she could help out and then did something about it in her quiet way.

Susan was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Beaumont, where she faithfully served and immersed herself in whatever needed to be done. Susan served on the Church Board of Trustees, worked with Kairos Kitchen Ministry feeding the homeless and was a tireless worker in building and providing beds for children. Her finances worked in this endeavor as she even provided coverings for the beds.

Susan is survived by one sister, Laurie Thomas and her husband, Wayne; and one brother, Marty Abercrombie and his wife, Jana, all of Lumberton; one niece, Tara Thomas Triana and her husband, Wayne, of Nacogdoches; nephews, Shane Thomas and his wife, Ashley; Chance Abercrombie and his wife, Ashlee; and Wade Abercrombie and his wife, Nicole, all of Lumberton; great-nieces, Kaylee, Leah, and Mylah; and great-nephews, Aubyn, Thomas, and Parks. She is also survived by special friend, Jayme Kugler; her “boys”, Buster, C.J., and Rickie; and numerous cousins, co-workers, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; beloved dog, Spot; and beloved horse, Dakota.

A gathering of Ms. Neil’s family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., with her homecoming and funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 29, 2022, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m.  Saturday at Neil Henry Rice Cemetery, 309 Rice Cemetery Road, Livingston.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jeff Vickers, Mark Alexander, Robert Broussard, David Nelson, Tracy Addison, Phillip Stager, Chuck Sherwood, and Jimmy Delaney.

Honorary pallbearers are Howard Victery, Bobby Victery, Gary Gray, and Roray Delano.

Susan will be missed forever by all who knew her and loved her.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sleep in Heavenly Peace, 701 Calder Avenue, Beaumont, Texas 77701; the Humane Society of Southeast Texas, 2050 Spindletop Avenue, Beaumont, Texas 77705; or Kairos Kitchen, 701 Calder Avenue, Beaumont, Texas 77701.

Susan Lee is my Cousin and my Hero. Her indomitable Spirit and Sense of Humor endured much these last few years. Her concern for others and love of animals continued to the end of her earthly life. She has a Godly Heritage that will continue to be shared with her family as we continue to remember Susan’s life. We will miss her daily. So happy to know she joins that crowd of witnesses that watch over us.
Susan Lee loved a family get-together and I am comforted by the Heavenly Celebration she’s enjoying now with our family and friends who are already Home!
My Joy is that she is no longer hurting and is totally cured and has her new Heavenly body that will never grow old nor sicken.
Praying ???????? for Supernatural Comfort and Strength for her family and friends.
