Susan Marie Simmons
Susan Marie Simmons, 64, of Beaumont, died Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at Christus Southeast Texas – St. Elizabeth, Beaumont. She was born April 3, 1958, in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, to Ruth Ann Karstaedt Weckler and Sherwood Weckler. Susan was a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.
She is survived by her husband, James David Simmons of Beaumont; son, James Matthew Simmons and his wife, Helen, of Port Neches; daughter, Nicole Ann Marie Arena and her husband, Joseph, of Beaumont; parents, Ruth and Sherwood Weckler of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin; sister, JoAnn Schmitz and her husband, Warren, of Waupun, Wisconsin; brother, Jeffrey Weckler and his wife, Pamela, of Tucson, Arizona; mother-in-law, Judith Simmons of Temecula, California; grandchildren, Isabelle Irene Simmons and James Francis Simmons, of Port Neches, Genevieve Ann Marie Arena; and Anastasia Nicole Arena of Beaumont.
Susan was a beautiful, loving, selfless, can-do, stubborn, German whose family was precious to her. Her love language was giving, and give she did, making life colorful and vibrant for all who knew her. She was a wife, mother, and grandmother, putting her family first.
Her grandchildren brought her immeasurable joy, and she loved nothing more than spoiling them. She valued the time spent with them and gave them her time and attention. Susan made sure she was present at every event to cheer them on. When at Grandma’s house, it was Grandma’s rules, and that meant the grandkids got what they wanted.
She could do anything, and all could see it through her artful skills in design and cooking. She routinely lent her design skills to help make events special. Through her cooking, everyone could taste her love. She rarely followed a recipe directly, instead adjusting it with love.
She is greatly missed. Memories of her will be cherished. The time spent with her will forever be priceless.
