Virginia “Ginger” Hoskins Hebert
Virginia “Ginger” Hoskins Hebert, 78, of Beaumont, died Monday, February 20, 2023. She was born in Houston on February 1, 1945.
Ginger was preceded in death by her husband Benjamin Chapman Hebert II, her daughter Evelyn “Eve” Alicia Stadeagar Anderson and her parents Evelyn and Isaac “Ike” Hoskins.
She attended The Kinkaid School, Lamar High School, Stephens College and Louisiana State University. Ginger’s keen eye for design and many artistic talents led to a career as a professional floral arranger and designer. While she was renowned for having the skill to produce stunning and innovative designs for any occasion, the fact that she was such a fun collaborator made her especially sought-after as a creative and all-around partner in crime.
Ginger was generous and witty with a twinkle in her eye and a knack for hospitality and entertaining. She collected too many truly close friends throughout her life to count. She wanted the best for everyone she loved and for everyone she loved to be their best. And to go for broke: Use the linen napkins. Take out your finest treasures. Turn up the music. Drink the good stuff. Spring for the peonies, even out of season.
One of her greatest pleasures was traveling with her family, whether it was to her beloved Santa Fe or the French countryside. She also held a deep affinity for animals, music and plants that inspired her work. Ginger’s creativity and floral artistry bloomed all over the houses of her clients and friends for their parties, weddings, holiday gatherings and special events. A well-respected member of The Magnolia Garden Club, she received the Appreciation Award for sharing her particular flair for flower-arranging and for serving as a mentor to many members.
Ginger delighted in her children, Eve and Chapman, and together they made a uniquely devoted trio. Never was there a more welcoming or revelry-filled home, nor a place guests felt more warmly received. She also found joy in keeping up with current events, fashion, politics, pop culture and the lives of the people she loved. She celebrated her friend’s blessings and grieved their losses. And she always remained genuinely glad to see them, no matter the interlude. There was never a “Where have you been?” Just an “I’m so happy you’re here.”
She is survived by her son, Benjamin Chapman “Chap” Hebert III, siblings, Nancy Hoskins Epley (Arthur “Bub”), Woody Hoskins, Jan Hoskins Ross (Robert), nieces and nephews, Ike Epley (Chandos), Alex Epley (Melissa), Richard Epley (Lauren), Aubrey Flynn (Trey), Dudley Hoskins, Houston Hoskins (Stephanie), Borden Hoskins (Catherine), Newton Ross III (Christie), Greer Dexter (Stephen) and numerous second cousins.

A memorial service for Mrs. Hebert will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at Beaumont Botanical Gardens, 6088 Babe Zaharias Drive, Beaumont. Cremation arrangements were handled through Broussard’s Crematorium, under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont.

This is a lovely write up about Ginger, who I met traveling in Europe during the 60’s. Ginger was like a colorful bouquet of flowers all the time, creating an essence of joy, laughter and living life with a zest! We roomed in Paris together and we became close friends through our high school years with many visits to her family home in Houston. The warm personalities of Evelyn and Ike Hoskins and their inviting home filled with their children and their children’s friends has always been a cherish memory of life in the 60’s!

Ginger and I first met when we were 10 years old. We were at Camp Mystic in a cabin called Bubble Inn. We continued seeing each other every year at camp for years and years. Anne Albritton Ramos, Ginger and I continued our friendship through the years at Camp Mystic, High School and the many decades that have followed. Ginger takes with her memories of my childhood that no one else knows. I really can’t remember when Ginger was not in my life. How blessed I am to have had her as a friend. To be continued my friend; I will see you soon.
The flowers that Ginger did for Andy and Jennifer are still a happy memory for me and my family. Ginger and her able assistant, Chap, created magic at the St. Anne’s Parish Hall. We were all feeling so displaced as we barely had returned from our 6 week evacuation due to Hurricane Rita. Ginger created a magical place… where we forgot about how destructive the Hurricane had been.
I do remember her well but not living in Texas???? for the later part of my life I did not keep up. Dilly thank you for letting me know

Chap, I don’t know if you remember me; your sweet mom did the flowers for Rachel’s baby naming 34 years ago and that began a lovely friendship. You were a cute young fellow and Eve babysat name and then for us. Your mom was so talented. I am sorry for your loss…Mindy Eisen
