Virginia “Ginny” Catherine Core

April 7, 1945 - December 17, 2022

Daughter, sister, wife, mother, friend, and faithful servant Virginia “Ginny” Catherine Core, 77, of Beaumont, died Saturday, December 17, 2022. She was born on April 7, 1945, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Catherine Queenan Bachofen and Stephen Hewitt Bachofen.

Ginny grew up in Burlington, New Jersey and graduated from Burlington High School in 1963. She earned a BA from Rutgers University in 1967. She spent her entire career as a public servant at the state, city & county levels throughout her working years. This included time with Communities in Schools helping ensure students received the education they needed.

Ginny was a voracious reader, who loved to learn. She was also an avid bridge and domino player and enjoyed gardening. Ginny was a true football fan who always rooted for her beloved Texas Longhorns and Dallas Cowboys. She was a faithful parishioner of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and a member of the Daughters of The King

In 1995 Ginny married her soulmate, Harold Core. Together they loved to travel, but more than anything, they loved to dance. Harold built their country dream house where they lived happily for many years before they returned to Beaumont. Now they’re together at the honky tonk in heaven dancing the night away forever!

Survivors include her son, Eric Malnassy and his wife, Misty; stepchildren, Donnie Core and his wife, Denise; Bobby Core; Teri Core Mitchell; Pat Core; and Hal Core Walker and his husband, Steven; brothers, Stephen Bachofen, Jr. and his wife, Lynn; Jonathan Bachofen and his wife, Pam McKenna; sister, Susan Bachofen; nephews, Ramon Capeles, Migel Capeles, Jason Bachofen, and Matthew Bachofen; nieces, Maggie Sniadecki and Elizabeth Kohler; grandchildren, Sara Core; Amy McQueen and her husband, Mike; Lauren Woodward; Meagan Henry and her husband, Campbell; Rebecca Core; Michael Core; William Walker; Nicholas Walker; Rachel Core; Ethan Core; and Jonah Core; great-grandchildren, Grace Campbell Henry, Barrett Henry, Georgana Henry, Nelson Henry, Elena Peurifoy, Nicholas Peurifoy, Baily Willis, Kaily Kitchens, Kyle Ridgaway, Caydence McQueen, Hadley McQueen, Karma Core, and Shane Core; and numerous other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold “Tudlum” Core; and granddaughter, Jennifer Peurifoy.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church Food Pantry, 680 Calder Avenue, Beaumont, Texas 77701.

A gathering of Mrs. Core’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 30, 2022, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 680 Calder Avenue, Beaumont, with her interment to follow at Magnolia Cemetery, Beaumont.
