Volney “Billy” Louis Ross, III

Volney “Billy” Louis Ross III, 80, of Weatherford, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025. Born on June 13, 1945, in Bridge City, Texas, Billy spent most of his life in Southeast Texas, where he was known for his creativity, kindness, and deep faith.

Billy proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and often shared stories of his time at sea. A man of many interests, he found joy in gardening, hiking, camping, and listening to music. He had a special love for the ocean and a talent for working with his hands—drawing, building, and crafting throughout his life. After a long career as a heavy equipment operator, Billy embraced retirement and spent his later years enjoying games of pool with friends at the local senior center, even purchasing his own table to hone his skills at home.

Above all, Billy’s greatest devotion was to his faith. He spent countless hours in prayer and Bible study, filling notebooks with reflections and insights. Despite a lifelong struggle with dyslexia, he read and studied scripture with ease—a gift he credited entirely to the Lord. His extensive Bible collection stands as a testament to his unwavering love for God, which he shared freely with everyone he met.

In 2004, Billy married the love of his life, Laura Teague, and was warmly embraced by her family. Though he had no biological children, he cherished his role as a stepfather and grandfather. After Laura’s passing in 2020, Billy remained a beloved presence in the lives of her children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his stepsons and their families: Dwight and Bernie, with six children and four grandchildren; and Aaron and Tiffany, with four children and one grandchild. He also leaves behind many dear friends and extended family members who will miss him deeply.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Morse Cemetery, 2640 Co Rd 777, Buna, under the direction of Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee.
