William Alberto Sandino

May 5, 1945 - June 6, 2025

William Alberto Sandino, 80, of Nederland, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025.

He was born on May 5, 1945, in Niquinohomo, Masaya, Nicaragua, to Casilda Sandino and Manuel Alberto Sequeira. In 1972, he married the love of his life, Maritza De los Ángeles Jaime Sandino, with whom he shared 53 faithful and loving years of marriage.

A former soldier, William bravely fought against the Sandinista revolution from 1968 to 1979. In December of 1987, he immigrated to the United States, fleeing civil war in search of peace and a better future for his family. He was reunited with them the following year. Though he held many jobs as an immigrant, William’s greatest honor and deepest joy was serving the Lord.

He came to faith in Christ in 1982 and served Him faithfully every day since. William had a deep love for Scripture and a heart for teaching. He spent countless hours at his desk reading and preparing to teach Sunday school and often filled in to preach the Sunday sermon. He was ordained on December 10, 1995. Since 2014, he faithfully pastored the congregation of Iglesia Bautista Hispana de Devers—a small but deeply rooted community he loved and served wholeheartedly.

William is survived by his devoted wife, Maritza, their five children,  Nelson Sandino and wife, Blanca, Lissette Godeaux and husband Andrew, Arturo Sandino and wife Gisela, Lorena Caballero and husband Daniel, and Cynthia Mays and husband, Cody. He also leaves behind 15 beloved grandchildren, John, Isabella, Stefany, Natalia, Nelson Jr., Jacquie, Sebastian, Mateo, Daniel, Abigail, Ian, Derek, Naomi, Yirik, and Wesley; and three siblings, Jose Sandino, Ena López Sandino, and Blanca Benavides Sandino.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Miramon Sandino.

He was a husband, father, grandfather, pastor, and faithful servant. He will be remembered for his unwavering faith, love for God’s Word, and the way he cherished his family above all else.

A gathering of Mr. Sandino’s family and friends will begin at 12:00 p.m., with his funeral service at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June10, 2025, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. His interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.
