Yvonne Janise Godeaux
Being on God’s Earth for 97 years, Yvonne Marie Janise Godeaux lived a life well loved, filled with hard work, lots of family, and fun times gathered around food and friends.
Yvonne was born in Church Point, Louisiana to Charles and Clorise Janise on March 2, 1927, the second oldest of nine children. At the age of 16, she moved to Texas where she ended up living out her life. On March 31, 1945, Yvonne married Ophey Val Godeaux while he was on Active Duty in the Army during World War II, and they later settled in China, Texas. Married for 54 years, Yvonne and Ophey shared a wonderful life raising their four children. Many weekends were filled with traveling to play the Cajun Dancehalls where Ophey played the fiddle at the dance and Yvonne shared in the fun. With limited education, Yvonne was largely self-taught and excelled in many areas of her life including farming, gardening, cooking, sewing, and quilting. Growing up during the Great Depression shaped her and enabled some of the best stories she loved to share. Whether it was how she worked the fields with her dad or helped her mom with the newest sibling just born, the memories were great, and we all loved to hear them. Her greatest accomplishment was her family, and her determination showed through the successes of not only herself but her husband, children, grandchildren, and now her great grandkids. As a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in China, Texas, Yvonne shared her time and talents through the Altar Society and many fundraisers and events held at the Church. Her faith was strong and carried her through a lifetime of ups and downs.
Yvonne is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband, and two children, Ray Godeaux and Theresa Faye Godeaux Harrington.
She is survived by her sister, Wilma Janise Fontenot; daughter, Elvina Rougeau (Larry); son, Lee Godeaux (Trudy); son in law, Allen Harrington; grandchildren, Kim Rougeau Moore (John); Lisa Rougeau (Joe Winston); Stephanie Tritico (Roy); Aaron Godeaux (Jenny); Regina Rougeau; Jennifer Rougeau Stokes (Joe); Doug Harrington (Elaine); Jaci Harrington Bundick (Bruce); Lauren Godeaux Edgerton (Curt); great-grandchildren, Madison Moore; Madeline Liatris (Braden); Owen Winston; Levi Winston; Sam Tritico; Corbin Godeaux; Chloe Godeaux; Luna Godeaux; Annelise Stokes; Nathan Denny; Chelsea Harrington; Madison Bundick; Blake Bundick; and Wyatt Bundick; along with nieces, nephews, and many lifelong friends.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution made to Our Lady of Sorrow Catholic Church, P.O. Box 38, China, Texas 77613.
