Zhanna Nemerinska

December 2, 1936 - September 8, 2021

Zhanna Nemerinska, 84, of Beaumont, died Wednesday, September 8, 2021, in Beaumont, TX. She was born on December 2, 1936, to Sophia Lazebnik and Nikolay Iosifov, in Odessa, Ukraine.

Zhanna was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and most importantly a friend to all and the matriarch of the family.  She loved to visit and share stories of her youth, as well as be a listening ear to anyone who needed it. Activities she especially enjoyed were sharing her love of her culture, living and being near the sea and ocean, and visiting with her great grandson.  Zhanna also was a skilled green thumb, as well as an exquisite cook of homemade foods and homegrown preservatives. Zhanna also had a very giving heart and enjoyed giving gifts to others at every opportunity and producing joy to all.

Zhanna went by many titles in her life.  In her early years, she obtained her PhD in Hydrometeorology and taught at a local university in Ukraine and was known by the title of Professor.  Despite being separated by extreme distances after her move to the USA in 1995, she still maintained contact with her previous students and continued to guide them on the journey of life.  To her friends she was known as a compassionate and caring companion, but also the friend that could give hard advice and unbridled honesty when needed to help navigate any conflict or problem.  To her family, she was known affectionately as “Big-Ba”, “Ba”, and most importantly, Mom.  She fiercely loved her family, was deeply loved, and will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Survivors include her daughter, Viktoria Acevedo and her husband, John; granddaughter, Kathrin Fitts and her husband, Curtis; and great-grandson, Connor Fitts, all of Beaumont, in addition to numerous extended family and friends from all over the world.

A gathering of Ms. Nemerinska’s family and friends will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Friday, September 10, 2021, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her cremation arrangements will be handled through Broussard’s Crematorium.
