Nancy Louise Smith

August 11, 1949 - July 15, 2017

Nancy Louise Smith, 67, of Winnie, died Saturday, July 15, 2017. She was born August 11, 1949, in North Merrick, Long Island, New York, to Marie Alice Ritter Johnson and Norbert Douglas Johnson. Nancy had been a resident of the Winnie area for thirty years.

Nancy was a graduate of Calhoun High School in Merrick, New York and Berkeley Claremont College in Hicksville, New York.  Throughout her life, she had a love of reading, travel, and a passion for animals. While at The Arboretum, Nancy was always helpful to the staff and was known to look after others with a kind heart. 

Survivors include daughters, Dawn Gruss and her husband, Jaskanwar Batra of Brooklyn, New York; and Heather Gruss, of Jersey City, New Jersey; son, Andrew Gruss, of Easton, Pennsylvania; brother, Bruce Johnson and his wife, Isabella Eredita – Johnson, of Northport, Long Island, New York; grandchildren, Matthew Brooks, of Brooklyn, New York and Tyler Thompson, of Easton, Pennsylvania; nephew, Mansoor Sadejhian; cousins, Jennifer West and Susan Jones, both of Pottsboro, Texas; and Susan Kuhn, of Fresno, California; father of her children, Andrew William Gruss, of Berlin, Maryland.

She was preceded in death by parents; husband, Jack Smith; and aunt, Dorothy Johnson. 

A gathering of Mrs. Smith’s family and friends, with a memorial service, will begin at 4:00 p.m., Friday, July 21, 2017, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. A private committal will be under the direction of Broussard’s Crematorium, 5151 Stivers, Beaumont.
