Ronald Dee Spencer, Sr., 91, of Winnie, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. Mr. Spencer was usually found outdoors, especially deer hunting and rice farming. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, but most of all, he loved having his grandchildren around him. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-eight years, Doris McAdams Spencer; his daughter, Rhonda Spencer LeBlanc and husband, Bryan; his sons, Ronnie Spencer and wife, Alice, and Randal Spencer and wife, Katie. He also leaves behind cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews who will continue to honor his memory. Lance Steven Barron, 14, of Winnie, died Friday, April 10, 2026. He was born to Mindy Rachelle Barron and Steven Gerald Barron on January 18, 2012, in Beaumont. Survivors include his parents; sister, Breelee Barron, all of Winnie; and grandparents, Kathryn Smith and husband, John, of Bronson, and Joe Barron, Sr. and wife, Tammy Austin. Lance truly loved being outdoors, especially with his dogs. He played basketball, rode his bike, hunted, and fished whenever he had the chance. Lance was known for appreciating good food, his favorites being Raisin’ Cane’s and boudin balls. He enjoyed spending time with his friends, gaming on his PlayStation, and other normal teenage things. Herbert Dean Johns, 83, of Winnie, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2026. He was born April 4, 1942, in Houston to Rosa Lee Falknor Johns and Ruby Lee Johns. Herbert graduated from Milby High School in 1960 and soon began his career with the United States Postal Service. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1964 to 1968 as a radar repairman. Following his military service, he returned to the Postal Service, where he dedicated many years before retiring as Postmaster in 1992. Never one to stop learning, Herbert pursued a lifelong goal of higher education in his early 50s, earning his teaching degree from Lamar University in 1999. He firmly believed that education could change the world for the better. Lois Marie Case, 88, of Winnie, died Wednesday, March 25, 2026. She was born to Gertrude Flo Adams Fleming and John Milton Fleming on November 28, 1937, in Houston. Survivors include daughters, Linda Goodwin, Debbie McClelland and her husband, Benny, and Elizabeth Hillyer and her husband, David; nine grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son, John Wayne Case. She was born to Melvin and May Ella Cummins, who preceded her in death along with her beloved husband of 73 years, Hubert Henry, her brother Jiggs, and her sisters Verna and Wilma “Sis”. Loretta Leger, 101, of Winnie, died Tuesday, March 24, 2026. She was born to Aimee Fontenot Guidry and Lawrence Guidry on October 11, 1924, in Branch, Louisiana. Loretta loved to read and do jigsaw puzzles when she wasn’t serving her community in the nursing field. She was happiest when she was cooking and spending time with her extended family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were always overjoyed to spend the night with their Mawmaw. Loretta also enjoyed traveling with and to see her family and never missed an important milestone or event. She was the best caretaker, and she will be greatly missed. Preston Arthur Neichoy, 91, died Monday, March 23, 2026. He was born on September 19, 1934, in Beaumont to Arthur and Loree Neichoy. Preston held tightly to the things that mattered, especially the small, worn treasures others might overlook old fishing gear, weathered tools, each one carrying a memory. Among his favorites was a stainless-steel malt cup from his mom’s diner, a simple piece that somehow held the warmth of home, laughter, and long-gone days. Jimmy Doyle “Jim” Gregory was born on May 2, 1934, in Childress, Texas to George Marshall Gregory and Lillie Mae Baker Gregory. He was the youngest of five children. He died on Saturday, January 17, 2026, in Beaumont, Texas. Although he was born in Childress, Jim always proudly claimed Turkey, Texas as his home. Jim grew up and went to work on a seismograph crew, which is how he met his wife, JoAnne Thomas Gregory. The story is that he kept making up excuses to go to the bank where she worked just to see her until he finally got the nerve to ask her on a date. And the rest, as they say, is history. David Herbert Murrell, 71, of Winnie, died Wednesday, January 14, 2026. He was born to Lucy Felter Leger and Joseph Wayne Murrell on January 21, 1954, in Winshire. David attended East Chambers and graduated in 1972. After high school, he attended Texas A&M University where he met his wife, Dina, farmed with his dad during the summers, then went on to earn his degree in Agronomy in 1976. After completing college, he moved back to Winnie to start a family and farm full-time as a third-generation farmer. In 1977, he put his first crop in the ground. His dad, brother and he farmed rice and soybeans for many years and ran a small cattle operation. David continued to farm until 2020 when he retired. Ruby Lormand Roche, 100, of Winnie, died Thursday, December 25, 2025. She was born on December 9, 1925, to Azemie Mire and Leon Lormand in Kaplan, Louisiana. Survivors include children, Gloria Owens of Laporte; Theresa Boudreaux and her husband, Clyde, of Beaumont; grandchildren, Rick Owens and his wife, Samantha; Eddie Boudreaux and his wife, Stacey; Brian Leblanc and his wife, Lisa; Clinton Smith and his wife, Tracy; Jamie Owens and his wife, Seba; Jim Boudreaux and his wife, Chris; Charlie Boudreaux and his wife, Jeannie; Jack Smith and his wife, Tina; Peter Roche and his wife, Shayna; Jessica Roche; Sheri Phelps and her husband, Bubba; Angie Gandy; Lisa Bertrand; Melanie Pierce and her husband, Scott. and twenty-two great-grandchildren and fifteen great-great-grandchildren. Tommye Lucille Onstott Hodges, 91 of Hamshire, died Christmas Eve morning at her home after a lengthy illness. Tommye was born October 8, 1934 in San Angelo, Texas to Thomas Alderson Onstott and Lucille Cerena Early. She attended Water Valley High School graduating in 1952. She married the love of her life, Donald Lester Hodges, on August 31, 1951. Their legacy lives on through their children Linda Dianne and Steven Phillip, both of Winnie. Tommye found joy and comfort in her relationships with her animals. Her heart was especially tender toward her horses, who seemed to sense and return that kindness. She was also Mom to many poodles, border collies and most recent, Lacey her shih-tzu, not to forget her many fat cats.
