JC Wall, 99, of Angleton, died Thursday, July 28, 2022. He was born November 21, 1922, in Chesnee, South Carolina, to Alice and Clement Wall. Survivors include his grandchildren, John Wall, Melissa Rohrer, and Tina Wall; great-grandchildren, Ashley Harrod and husband, Robert; Jennifer Schlinger and husband, Dustin; Jonathon Wall; John Michael Hodge; Jessica Wall; and Melody Maple; great-great-grandchildren, Gracie Askew; James Harrod; Waylon Harrod; and McKenna Schlinger; and son, Robert Dale Hill. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Hebert Wall, parents, and son, James R. Wall. Brenda Marie Gibbons, 60, of Stowell, died Sunday, July 24, 2022, at Christus Southeast Texas – St. Elizabeth, Beaumont. She was born February 21, 1962, in Lafayette, Louisiana, to Virgie Mae King and Nathaniel Thomas, Sr. Brenda was a CNA for over twenty-two years at the Arboretum of Winnie and was a faithful member of Mt. Horeb Baptist Church, Winnie. She enjoyed cooking and playing Bingo. Brenda will be remembered as a loving mother, wife, mom, and friend. Peter Michael Sykes, 71, of Winnie, died Sunday, July 17, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was born December 15, 1950, to Elizabeth and Walter P. Sykes, M.D. Michael loved to read and would often host philosophical discussions at the Farm. He was happiest sharing his love of art, music, and literature with anyone who would listen and was a true hippy and teacher at heart. He worked as a Journeyman Stagehand as a member of IATSE Local 183. He loved his family more than anything and was their biggest supporter. He will be remembered as a father, a Marine, a mentor, a friend and most importantly, a Pop. Christopher Lee Thomas, 39, of Stowell, died Monday, July 11, 2022, at Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital. He was born August 25, 1982, in Galveston, to Mary Thomas Leday and Eugene Leday, Sr. Christopher loved cooking and was known for his Cajun dishes and enjoyed dancing to zydeco music. Mary Jones, 86, of Winnie, died Sunday, July 10, 2022. She was born on January 9, 1936, to Laura Foster and Daniel Butler. Mary was the longtime owner of Mary’s Hallmark Shop in Houston. She enjoyed gardening, reading, casino trips, traveling with her husband, and fishing. Above all else, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Anyone who met her fell in love with her and became a friend for life. She was a true warrior that had such a strong faith. She will be dearly missed by all. Lastie “Bubba” Andrus, 70, of Winnie, died Friday, July 8, 2022, at Houston Methodist Hospital. He was born March 7, 1952, in Winnie, to Ora Marie Granger Andrus and Lastie Andrus, Sr. Bubba was an outdoorsman that truly enjoyed the simple ways of life. He was a very accomplished taxidermist. Fredrick James Slezak, Sr., 54, of Beaumont, died Thursday, July 7, 2022. He was born August 27, 1966, in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, to Judy Carolyn Gibbs Slezak and Fredrick Joseph Slezak. Fredrick was a laidback man that loved music, especially rock-n-roll, such as AC/DC and Ozzy. He never outgrew his old school mentality and was known to always roll with the flow. The Matriarch, Gracie Mae King Levier, a prayer warrior for the Lord, passed away peacefully in her home on June 27, 2022. Gracie was born August 3, 1932, in Waxia, Louisiana, to Merrick and Zulia King. She married Joseph Levier in 1952, then later moved to Texas and made her home in 1960. Jose (Joe) Abalos, a beloved member of the Winnie community, Saint Louis Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus passed away surrounded by family on June 15, 2022 at the age of 85. Joe was born to Juan Francisco and Marguarita Abalos on April 21, 1937 in Rankin, Texas. Joe had many fond memories of his childhood working and living on a ranch there until moving alongside his family to Robert Lee, Texas. In 1966, Union Texas Petroleum relocated the family to Winnie, Texas. Joe was known as PePe to his family in West Texas. Sharon Cecilia Burgess, 76, of Winnie, died Friday, June 3, 2022. She was born October 27, 1945, to Anita and Tom Jenkins. Sharon graduated from East Chambers and continued her education, earning a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Lamar University. She pursued her love of nursing, becoming the Director of Nursing of Winnie Community Hospital, and then serving as a Chambers County nurse until her retirement. She also served as the president of the hospital board. As a lifelong member of St. Louis Catholic Church, Sharon was strongly rooted in her Catholic faith. Her caring spirit radiated to those around her, and her laughter was infectious. Her smile could light up a room. Martin G. Zambrano, 72, of Winnie, died Monday, May 2, 2022, at The Riceland Medical Center, Winnie. He was born September, 22, 1949, in El Campo, to Josephina Garcia Zambrano and Gregorio Zambrano. Martin was a truck driver for over thirty years prior to his retirement. He was an outdoorsman that loved fishing, hunting, and spending time at the beach. He also enjoyed cooking and entertaining. Mike Woodiel, 75, of Hamshire, died Monday, May 2, 2022, at The Riceland Medical Center, Winnie. He was born August 18, 1946, in Freeport, to Katherine Palmer Woodiel and Coy Woodiel. Mike was United States Army veteran. He retired from Hamshire-Fannett ISD after serving thirty-one years of service as a wood shop teacher. Mike was known to be a hard worker. He enjoyed spending time working cattle and woodworking, as well as deer hunting and making his own wine. He is survived by his nieces, nephews, and numerous loving relatives and friends. A private family committal for Mr. Woodiel will be handled through Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 134 Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. Loretta was a pharmacy technician for over thirty years. She was a faithful member of St. Louis Catholic Church, Winnie. Teddi was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was the big sister that watched out for all of her siblings from the time she was a teenager. Beverly Devillier Kiker, 80, of Winnie, died Sunday, April 3, 2022. She was born June 10, 1941, in Goose Creek, Texas, to Addie Maggie Lee Cole and Herman Bird Bice. The youngest of four children, she was raised in the Sun Oil Camp in Winnie where she made many lifelong friends and memories. Growing up in a Christain home, they spent many years gathering and singing gospel music together. Beverly loved baking with her sisters and had a love for writing poetry. Georgia Mae Sullivan, 93, died Tuesday, March 29, 2022. She was born November 7, 1928, in Nederland, to Julia and Ira Phillips. Her many aliases include “Mom”, “Aunt JoJo”, “Georgia Mae”, “Grans”, “Granny”, “GrannyLake”, and “Jo”. She and her husband, Lake, were from Winnie and High Island. They married when Georgia was fifteen. They spent years in many small towns south of I-10, while Lake worked in the oil fields. In 1968, they moved to Baytown and then to Dayton. As the grandkids were born, the grandchildren and their friends were her focus. She was caring, generous, and loving. She loved music, loved company, wanted everyone to drink tea, have a snack with her, and she never missed her weekly hair appointment, which the family always teased her about. Bruce Lever Mitchell, 72, of Winnie, died Thursday, March 10, 2022, at The Riceland Medical Center, Winnie. He was born September 6, 1949, of Oxnard, California, to Dolores Jean Sammann Mitchell and James Lever Mitchell, Jr. Bruce was a United States Army veteran. Survivors include his wife of twenty-five years, Joan Mitchell, of Winnie; children, Chris Mitchell and wife, Heidi, of Washington State; Jamie Banaszewski and husband, Matthew, of North Pole, Alaska; Melissa Mitchell, of Washington State; Genny Kovacevich and husband, Kevin, of Dickinson; Jamie Pickens and husband, Rusty, of Texas City; and Brian Cook; ten grandchildren; sister, Cindy Schardt and husband, Mike; best friends, Cindy and Mike Slay; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Delma Ann Campbell, 69, of Fannett, died Tuesday, March 8, 2022. She was born November 14, 1952, in Kilgore, to Pauline and Delmar Gaby. She is survived by husband of over twenty-six years, John Campbell; son, John Ryan Campbell, both of Fannett; sisters, Joy McDaniel and husband, Mike, of Winnie and Terri Charles, of Houston; several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. She will be especially missed by her faithful feline companions, Big Bob, Little Bob and Fred. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Karen Wallace. She will be lovingly remembered by all the 3rd graders and co-teachers at China Elementary where she taught school until her retirement in 2012.
