Ross Wayne Van Norstrand, II, of Winnie, died Friday, May 13, 2022. He was born July 26, 1977, in Beaumont, to Mary Kelly Smith McNeely and Ross Wayne Van Norstrand, Sr. The most important times in his life were with his daughter, Paitan. He enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys, fishing (especially with his dad), and hunting. He was a crane operator and pipefitter for Pilgram Construction. He loved having Nerf gun wars with his nieces and nephews. Ross will be remembered as a loving husband, father, son, and Uncle Ross. Martin G. Zambrano, 72, of Winnie, died Monday, May 2, 2022, at The Riceland Medical Center, Winnie. He was born September, 22, 1949, in El Campo, to Josephina Garcia Zambrano and Gregorio Zambrano. Martin was a truck driver for over thirty years prior to his retirement. He was an outdoorsman that loved fishing, hunting, and spending time at the beach. He also enjoyed cooking and entertaining. Mike Woodiel, 75, of Hamshire, died Monday, May 2, 2022, at The Riceland Medical Center, Winnie. He was born August 18, 1946, in Freeport, to Katherine Palmer Woodiel and Coy Woodiel. Mike was United States Army veteran. He retired from Hamshire-Fannett ISD after serving thirty-one years of service as a wood shop teacher. Mike was known to be a hard worker. He enjoyed spending time working cattle and woodworking, as well as deer hunting and making his own wine. He is survived by his nieces, nephews, and numerous loving relatives and friends. A private family committal for Mr. Woodiel will be handled through Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 134 Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. Larry James Devillier, Sr. of Winnie, passed away at the age of 85 on February 11, 2022, under the care of Kindred Hospice at the Arboretum of Winnie. Larry was born on August 13, 1936, in Rayne, Louisiana to Mildred Arceneaux and John Oscar Devillier. He was the oldest of their four children. When Larry was 10 years old, the Devillier family moved to Winnie to begin what would become decades of farming rice. Larry attended East Chambers from 4th grade on to his graduation in 1955. The family of David Paul Benoit invites you to celebrate the life of their beloved David Paul who gained his wings Wednesday, January 26, 2022. David is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Joyce Royer Benoit, who made their home in Winnie, Texas; son, Chad Benoit and wife, Kelli; grandson, Case; granddaughters, Callie and Colbie; and granddog, Rock, of Bastrop, Texas; daughter, Jill Benoit and granddog, Max, of Winnie, Texas; stepdaughter, Lori Hinze, of Austin, Texas; stepson, Donny Wood and wife, Jerri, of Winters, Texas; step-granddaughter, Annie Wood, of Lorton, Virginia; and extended family. Bernard “Buddy” Renkema, 85, of Hamshire, died Saturday, January 22, 2022, at The Arboretum of Winnie. He was born June 6, 1936, in Hamshire, to Lois DeYoung Renkema and Peter Renkema. Buddy retired from Winnie Pipeline after twenty-five years of service as an instrument mechanic. He was a volunteer with the Hamshire Volunteer Fire Department since 1962. Buddy loved gardening and was well known for his gardens. Survivors include his wife, Artie Clubb Renkema, of Hamshire; children, Bernie Renkema Delaune and husband, Michael, of Winnie and Billy W. Estella was affectionately known as “Nan Sis” on her side of the family and as “Anastell” on her husband’s side. She enjoyed cooking and zydeco music. She especially loved the rose garden she had in front of her house. Geneva “Marie” Phelps Reagan, 90, of Bradford, Arkansas, passed from this life to the next on Thursday, January 6, 2022. She was born February 4, 1931, in Hamshire, Texas, to the late Agnes Marie Grammier Phelps and Byron Dug Phelps. Marie loved flowers, especially pink antique roses, and she enjoyed selling antique glass at her shop. She loved her rosebush and when she moved from Texas, she brought it with her. The rosebush had been in her family for more than two hundred years. Marie and her husband Dolphe Lee “Hacksaw” Reagan were wed for forty-nine years and resided in Winnie, Texas.
