Stephen Ramsey Gunter

April 11, 1958 - June 23, 2017

Stephen Ramsey Gunter, 59, of Nederland, died Friday, June 23, 2017. He was born on April 11, 1958, to Gisela Gross and R.C. Gunter, Jr.  He was a life long residence of Nederland, TX and graduated Nederland High School in 1976.  He was a devoted Christian man and a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church.  Stephen was a Sr. Area Manager for Valero Energy Corporation.  He would have had thirty years of service.

Stephen was never afraid to take on the challenges in life and enjoyed a reputation of honesty and integrity among his peers, family, and friends.   He had a gift for making people feel special.  He spent his life successfully balancing his work with play.  When he wasn’t working, he could be found at his family farm in Newton, TX.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his friends and family. Stephen loved family gatherings and reunions. He was a great fan of NASCAR, Houston Texans, and the Astros.  He loved Texas. Stephen was loved and respected by all that knew him.  He was a good, generous, and loving man. He will truly be missed.

Survivors include his wife and best friend, Mary Handley Gunter of Nederland; parents, R.C. and Gisela Gunter of Nederland; sons, Tyler Gunter and his wife, Stephanie, of Tomball and Travis Gunter and his partner, Allissia of Beaumont; daughter, Kendall Gunter of Port Neches; one grandchild, Addison Lee Gunter; sister, Linda Monica Bresee of Nederland; brothers, Robert Gunter and his wife, Kristi, of Gary and Kevin Gunter and his wife, Leitha, of Kountze; five nieces and nephews; and four great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Brian Gunter; and grandparents, Pink and Ramsey Gunter and Anna and Wilhelm Gross.

A gathering of Mr. Gunter’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, June 26, 2017, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 2711 Helena Avenue, Nederland. His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Nederland. His interment will follow at 3:00 p.m., at Sycamore Cemetery, Burkeville, under the direction of Broussard’s, Mortuary, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland.
