Vinnie ‘Susie” Estel Smit

May 2, 1932 - June 21, 2017

Vinnie Estel “Susie” Smith, 93, of Nederland, Texas, passed away June 21, 2017. Susie was born on May 2, 1924 in Bay City, Texas to Grant and Molly Fisher.

The family later relocated to Port Arthur, Texas where she then graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. Shortly after WWII, she met the love of her life, Jack Smith. They were married on December 30, 1945, and resided in Port Neches, Texas.

Susie was preceded in death by her parents, Grant and Molly Fisher; her husband of fifty-five years, Jack Smith; sisters, Jane Estes and Vivian Hill; brothers, Vestel, Marvin, and Boyd Fisher; grandson, Damon Jack Smith; and niece, Susan Johnson.

She is survived by her son, Barry Lee Smith of Nederland, and his fiancé, Sheri Drawhorn of Hamshire, grandchildren, Jason Smith of Anchorage, Alaska, Ashley Arredondo and husband, Abel, of Port Neches and Peyton Smith of Nederland; great-grandchildren,  Maegan and Bryce Smith of Anchorage, Alaska and Tyra and Preslee Arredondo of Port Neches; nephews, Ramon Hill, Mickey Hill, Stephen Estes, Raymond Fisher, and Palton Fisher; nieces Janet Flanagan, Cynthia Sue Schuler, and Deanna Little; and  a number of other family and friends.

A gathering of Mrs. Smith’s family and friends will be from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., Sunday, June 25, 2017, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 26, 2017, at Broussard’s, with her interment following at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Smith’s memory to Humane Society of Southeast Texas, P.O. Box 1629, Beaumont, Texas 77704.
