Mary Ann Dana

October 5, 1928 - February 2, 2017

Mary Ann Dana, 88, of Lumberton, went to her heavenly home on Thursday February 2, 2017. Mary Ann was born on October 5, 1928, in Rochester, New York, to Eleanor Seiser Albert and William F. Albert.

Mary Ann met the love of her life, John “Jack” Dana in Rochester and married him on July 9, 1949, at Spencer-Ripley Methodist Church, the church right down the street from her childhood home. She started attending church there when she was 5 years old. Mary Ann loved Jesus and people who knew her would say there was a halo about her. She was loving, kind, sweet spirited, and gentle. She practiced what she preached. She lived and conducted her life according to God’s word. She was a role model for others trying to find peace, the peace that only Jesus can give. Mary Ann was an active devoted member of Woodcrest Methodist Church in Lumberton since her and Jack’s move there in 1974. She taught Prayer and Praise on Tuesday mornings for years and was a “prayer warrior” for many. She was a faithful member of the Agape Sunday School Class.

Mary Ann had a smile that would light up a room. Her laugh was contagious. She was gracious beyond compare. She wrote thank you notes for thank you notes. She was a wonderful mother and “Grandma Dana” to four kids, eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She loved celebrating holidays and special occasions with her family. She loved a party, decorations and all. She made the best chocolate chip cookies. She loved angels and had a room full of them. She loved traveling and had been to all 50 states and quite a few countries as well.

Mary Ann’s love and memories will remain in the hearts of her loving husband of 67 years, John “Jack” Dana, son, Jim Dana and wife, Patty, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; daughter, Lynn Greer and husband, Judson, of San Diego, California; son, Bob Dana of Beaumont, Texas; and daughter, Sue Paladino and husband, Leo, of Lumberton, Texas. She was blessed with eight wonderful grandchildren, Kara Dana, Emily Knox, Laura Cervantes, Julia Greer, Colt Dana, and Tres, Dana and Aimee Paladino. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Eli and Sofi Cervantes. She was preceded in death by her parents; and Bob’s wife, Cheryl “Cup” Dana.

Mary Ann’s family would like to thank At Home Senior Care and all their loving employees and caregivers that helped in her time of need. To know her if even for a short while was to love her.

Mary Ann has finished her course and she is leaving behind a fine example of how to live by the words, the smile, the hugs, and the love she has given us. She is now at peace. She has been steady in her faith and has now come to the time for which she lived. This is not the end, it’s just the beginning.

Revelations 14:13, I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write this: From now on those who die believing in the Lord are blessed. “Yes,” says the spirit “Let them rest from their hard work. What they have done goes with them.”
