Irene Geheb

April 10, 1925 - August 26, 2020

Irene Craigen Geheb was born April 10, 1925, in Fannett, Texas, to parents, Leo Edward Craigen and Josephine Holst Craigen. She was the 7th of 12 children. She died on August 26, 2020, at the age of 95.

She is survived by her only child, Denise Geheb; three sisters, Corene Yingling, 97, of Winnie, Texas, Lorene Wagner, 91, and Mary Ellen Daigle, 85, both of Fannett, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Harry Geheb; her parents, and siblings, Eddie Craigen, Mae “Doll” Stone, Joe Craigen, Arthur Craigen, Tenos Craigen, Leo Craigen, Jr., Johnnie Craigen, and Frank Craigen.

Irene was a very sweet, kind and compassionate person. She was always there to provide help and guidance for her family. She was an excellent daughter to her own parents and often acted as caretaker for them, taking her daddy to check on the cows and wherever he wanted to go and taking her mother to doctor appointments and shopping, whatever was necessary. She was a wonderful role model, wife, aunt, and parent. She was very generous and always thinking of others and helped her siblings and nieces and nephews any way she could, always with love in her heart. Marrying later in life, she was at home with a lot of them and helped to raise her nieces and nephews and had that presence to be a role model. Her small, three -person family that came after her own large family was first and foremost to her, but she never let others down if she possibly could help them.

Irene was a loving and over- protective mother who was involved and volunteered at St. Anthony Cathedral School while her daughter attended there. There was nothing she would not do for her husband and daughter.

She was a faithful Catholic, an active parishioner at St. Mary’s in Fannett who was a member of the Altar Society and Catholic Daughters. She and her husband, Harry were among the first Eucharistic Ministers chosen when the church started that ministry and she continued in that ministry into her early 80s.

She always tried to live a good life and do the right thing. She was a true Christian who always advised people not to gossip, rather to pray for others. She had a saying that she passed along, “hi and goodbye are for everybody”. After learning of her passing, the comments that were repeated over and over were how she was always smiling and how special she was. One of the St. Anthony classmates mentioned she was a “Mom to many” Indeed she was special in her own right, but she always made others feel special and noticed. She was one to seek out someone in a room that was alone or not noticed and go speak to them.

In her later years she wanted nothing but love and affection. When she had nothing to do or say, she grabbed your hand and kissed it. This was for everyone. She will be missed by all that knew her.

A gathering of Mrs. Geheb’s family and friends will begin at 9:00 a.m., with a Rosary recited at 10:00 a.m., and her funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 2, 2020, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 42040, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73123 or the Alzheimer’s Association, 6055 South Loop East, Houston, Texas 77087.

Denise would like to thank the numerous caregivers at Dowlen Oaks and Summer Place who watched over and cared for Irene. It is appreciated more than words can express.

I saw aunt Irene and Denise almost every day of my young life. They would come to our house every day and Irene would have a cup of coffee with mom while Denise and I would play together. There was so much laughter coming from the kitchen., I know that they are up there enjoying a cup of coffee now with Harry. Rest in Peace Irene I love you!

Denise, although your mom is not with you physically, she walks with you and holds you in her arms just as Jesus does. She raised a wonderful daughter and you will go on giving the love and kindness as she did. Love, Mikka

My heart hurts for you and the pain that you have endured. Denise, you are such a wonderful person. The best example of everything a daughter should be, and I know that your mom could not have been prouder or loved you any more. God has always been there for you, and He is now, more than ever. Lean on Him in these troubled times and know that all of your friends are lifting you up in prayer.

Christine thank you, It flowed out like a river and of course I forgot to include a lot of things but everyone that knew her knows all the wonderful things about her. I am really sorry you couldn't be here but I feel the love from you. I hope to see you sometime soon when all this mess is over.

Kim , thanks. My Mom did treat you like her own. I think a lot of people felt that way about her. I am proud of her for being so sweet and I doubt she ever really knew that others viewed her in such a special way.

Denise Geheb

Ilene, I can say for sure I know you loved my Mom. She loved you too. I have to thank you for helping me with her when she was in the hospital in the past few years. It meant a lot to me and to her. I will hold a special place in my heart for you for all you have done and for how much you loved her. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Denise Geheb

Thank you Alice, what a sweet thing to say. She loved you too. She had me a long time without my Dad and I know he was waiting patiently for the last 24 years to get her back! It would not be the first time he waited patiently for her. They were both so special and I appreciate that you recognized it. Love you.
