Auther Mae Alford McFadden

Auther Mae Alford McFadden, 91, of Conroe and formerly of Jasper and Lumberton, died Thursday, June 24, 2021.  She was born on March 12, 1930, in Jasper, to Ora Mae Warner Alford and Auther Terrell Alford. She was a 1948 graduate of Jasper High School.

Mrs. McFadden worked in the healthcare profession for 15 years prior to joining the Lumberton Independent School District in 1967. She worked for the superintendent and several principals throughout the years as well as performing payroll and accounting functions. Mrs. McFadden was affectionately known as “Momma Mac or Mrs. Mac” to many of the LHS students. She was actively involved in school activities and chaperoned trips to drill team camp as well as many beach trips for her LHS kids. She retired from Lumberton Independent School District after twenty-three years of service in 1991. After retirement she moved back to her hometown Jasper but did not stay retired for long.  Loucille and Jack Martindale, her aunt and uncle came calling and hired her to work for them at the Martindale Land and Cattle Company. She enjoyed learning about the timber and cattle business and reconnecting with old friends and her Jasper family. She retired again in 1996.

During her life she enjoyed dancing, organizing class reunions, and remained mentally active through her social media account, writing letters, reading books on her Kindle, loved to play solitaire and work word puzzles. She adored all of her children and wanted nothing more than to spend time with them, participate in family activities and enjoy a good ole’ Whataburger, hot dog, or some tacos.  She was “Momma” to many and always provided you a shoulder to cry on and a little bit of friendly advice.  

Survivors include her son, Robert “Bobby” McFadden and his wife, Karen, of Lumberton; daughter, Ruth McFadden of Conroe; grandchildren, Clark, Marla and her husband, DeLaine; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Carly, and Hannah; aunt, Loucille Warner Martindale, numerous cousins, and many close friends.  She is preceded in death by her parents and husband of twenty-four years, Robert “Mac” McFadden.

A gathering of Mrs. McFadden’s family and friends will be held at 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee.  Her graveside service will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 1, 2021, at Memorial Park Cemetery, Jasper.
