lYTHA “MEE-MAW” HAWKINS

December 7, 1931 - July 14, 2017

Lytha “Mee-Maw” Hawkins, 85, of Kountze, died Friday, July 14, 2017 at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas, Beaumont, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born on December 7, 1931, in Beaumont, to Zelda Scarborough and A. Herman Mitchell, and had been a longtime resident of the area.

Lytha was a talented seamstress and worked for Cobbs for many years. She loved keeping house and working in her yard. Lytha will be remembered as a strong-willed woman, who spoke her mind and loved her coffee.

Lytha was survived by her sons, John Hawkins of Virginia and Rod Hawkins of Kountze; daughter, Barbara Barbee of Tyler; five grandchildren, and brother, Don Mitchell of Corpus.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Hawkins; brothers, Darnell and Alvis Mitchell; and sister, Fay Mitchell.

The Hawkins family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to all the staff at Silsbee Oaks Health Care, especially those on Hall 5 for their attentiveness and loving care.

A gathering of Mrs. Hawkins’ family and friends will be from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her graveside service will follow at 11:00 a.m., at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 4955 Pine Street, Beaumont.
