Leon “Galloway” Hammett

October 7, 1926 - February 26, 2022

Galloway Hammett, 95, died on February 26, 2022. Galloway moved to in Port Arthur/Groves in the 4th grade and graduated from Thomas Jefferson HS in 1945. Upon graduation he enlisted and spent 4 years in the Army. After the army he began working at Pure Oil refinery. He continued there until his retirement in 1984.  He met his bride at Pure Oil refinery and moved to Beaumont to live.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Betty Carol Hammett.

Survivors include his son, Bruce Hammett of Sour Lake; his daughter, Carol Hammett Davis and husband, Mike, of Spring, Texas; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Galloway and Betty were founding members of Trinity United Methodist Church and continued there until their deaths.

A private memorial will be planned for a later date.

His cremation arrangements will handled through Broussard’s Crematorium under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.
