Hugh R. Clubb, Sr.

January 23, 1938 - February 10, 2023

Hugh Roland Clubb was born in Beaumont, Texas, on January 23, 1938, and grew up in a home that was built in 1864 with no electricity, no neighbors and no money.  He was one of 7 children born to William “Bill” Clubb and Mossie Slocum Clubb.

Hugh attended Voth Rosedale Elementary, James Bowie Junior High and French High School.  As a young man, he bailed hay, worked cows and built board roads in oil fields by day and loaded ships by night.

Hugh married Norma Annette Sturrock in May of 1958 and they had 5 children (Nancy, RaNel, Roland, Shelley and Melinda).  He rode bulls and bucking horses for money and was the 1957 Texas State High School Bareback Bronc Riding Champion. Later, Hugh and his son, H. Roland Clubb, were inducted into the Texas High School Rodeo Hall of Fame in 1980, as the first father and son to win a State Championship.

He went to work for the City of Beaumont appraising property while attending Lamar. Soon afterward, he founded Associated Real Estate, specializing in rural property.

Over the years, Hugh was involved in several real estate partnerships, including PICA Investment Ventures with longtime friends and partners Jim Austin, Dr. Reggie Iles and Paul Pigue, which began in 1972 and has continued for 50 plus years.

Hugh was fortunate to have lived a full and adventurous life with colorful family and friends. He loved reliving the many wonderful memories they created and enjoyed sharing those with everyone.

He was a kind and generous man, with a soft spot for people and animals in need, and he never hesitated to help even during those times when he had so little to share.

He was a soft-spoken man who loomed large in the lives of those who loved him.

Survivors include his children, Nancy Clubb Yohe and her husband, Harry, of Manchester, Missouri; RaNel Clubb of Beaumont; H. The family ties go way back to Mr. Clubb’s children and the Hanna boys high school rodeo days. Many good memories. Hugh was so giving of himself to so many. He gave very wise advice when we began our real estate careers. Blessings to all. Rest in peace.

I want to extend my heartfelt condolences. After I graduated in 1972, I was introduced to Mr. Clubb. He was looking for a receptionist for his company, Associated Real Estate. I told him that I knew nothing about real estate. He encouraged me to join forces and he would teach me the real estate business. I declined and have wished many times that I had taken the position. As time progressed, it seems that I saw Associated Real Estate signs everywhere. I am so happy that he prospered. This country gentleman will be missed by many. My sincere hugs to his family and friends.

    To Roland and Family,
I will never forget your father’s generosity! In 1980 I had just got a new Bareback Rigging. I wanted to check the hand hold on a bucking machine. I knew you had one. So I just called your Dad. Now I had never met your father, and he tells me, “sure go get on it anytime you want to”. I used it several times and really helped me.
    Prayers to the family
