Douglas Kirkland

June 9, 1935 - February 20, 2023

Douglas Kirkland, 87, of Deweyville, died Monday, February 20, 2023, at Christus Hospitals of Southeast Texas – St. Elizabeth, Beaumont. He was born June 9, 1935, in Dumas, to Nellie Ann Woody Davis and Jewell Davis.

Douglas was a United States Army veteran. He was a 1st Class Machinist and had many interests. He enjoyed chess, gardening, and fishing in his younger years. Douglas also loved to play pool and was a skilled wood worker and even crafted his own pool table.

Survivors include his son, Bill Navarre and wife, Lauren, of Vidor; grandchildren, Patrick Navarre, Alan Joseph Navarre, Josie Permenter, and Kori Navarre; brother, David Kirkland; and sisters, Lois Stevenson, Gorgie Denning and Billy Jean Arrington.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rita Kirkland; and brother, Joe Kirkland.

A gathering of Mr. Kirkland’s family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m., with his funeral service at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 25, 2023, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. His interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Winnie.
