James Earl Murphy

James Earl Murphy, 81, of Lumberton, died Monday, June 19, 2023. He was born on September 25, 1941, in Beaumont, to Angelina Talliana Murphy and Ben Edward Murphy.

He married his wife, Barbara, nearly sixty-two years ago in 1961.  In those sixty-two years they were blessed with four children, fourteen grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren, with one more on the way.  James spent his early adult years working for Carnation Company, between 1958 to 1966.  He went to work for Goodyear in 1966, a few months before his triplet boys were born and retired after thirty-eight years.

James could always be found with a smile on his face and a cup of coffee in his hands.  He enjoyed gardening, working in the yard, sitting on his back porch swing, and lending a helping hand to his loved ones.  James was happiest when spending time with his family and had a deep affection for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Murphy; children, Brenda Cunningham and her husband, Lance, of Lumberton; and their children, Caitlyn and Kiley; James “Jim” Murphy and his wife, Regina, of Lumberton, and their children, Britany, Mason, Jacob, Ethan, and Caden; Jeffrey Murphy and his wife, Julie, of Sharpsburg, Georgia, and their children, Zechariah, Dara, Caleb, and Boaz; and John Murphy and his wife, Gloria, of New Waverly, and their children, Felicity, R.J., and Bobbie; and five great-grandchildren, with one on the way. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, George Murphy and Carroll Murphy.

A gathering of Mr. Murphy’s family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., with his funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee.  His interment will follow at Hardin Memorial Park, Silsbee.
