Rock Griffis

October 30, 1964 - June 26, 2023

Rock Griffis, 58, of Beaumont, Texas, passed away on Monday the 26th of June 2023, at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas.

Rock was born on October 30, 1964, in Oakland, California, to his mother, Sheila Faye Griffis, and father, Charles William Griffis, both of which preceded him in death.

In his early years, Rock enjoyed playing football and working on cars with his father, as well as learning how to bake with his mother. A few years after graduating from French High School (Beaumont, Texas) in 1983, he married his wife, Tammy, on May 2, 1986, whom he had known since 4th grade and started dating in the 11th grade in 1982. Throughout the years, they would have three children, Sharlotte, Noah, and Naomi. After a few years of trying to find a long-term career path to support his growing family, Rock became a plumber and became well known locally as an honest, fair, and hardworking individual by many in the community. Even after retirement, he spent his free time helping people as much as he could. Some of his hobbies included cooking, beekeeping, gardening, and woodworking, which he enjoyed in his retirement. After a long day, he would enjoy coming home to his wife and his dog, Gabriel.

Later, Rock’s family would eventually grow even bigger with the addition of Noah’s wife, Catherine, their son Gavin, as well as Naomi’s fiancé, Austin Wells.

During his life, Rock devoted his life to Jesus Christ and worked as a messenger for God’s word. Even late in his life he preached the fact that he was a sinful man who was saved by grace and that no matter what was going on in his life, good or bad, he was always blessed. He would spread the word by talking to anyone who would listen, going so far as to striking up conversations with complete strangers.

Rock’s spirit and joy has been spread to so many people around him including his extended family along with close friends he had gained through the years.

Survivors include his wife, Tammy Griffis; children, Sharlotte Prince of Nederland and Noah Griffis and his wife, Catherine, and Naomi Griffis and her fiancé, Austin Wells, all of Beaumont; grandson, Gavin Griffis of Beaumont; his beloved dog, Gabe; and numerous extended family members and loved ones through the years.

A gathering of Mr. Griffis’ family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 6, 2023, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Rock checked in on classmates and always had a word for God. He shared plants and plumbing knowledge. I know he cared for his family. I recall Rock being around since my early school days. I communicated more with him LONG after our French High days.
