Jerry Glean Neenan

September 4, 1972 - July 26, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Jerry Glean Neenan, Jr. A husband, father, son, brother, “Pops” and friend, Glean died unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at his home in Beaumont, Texas, at the far too young age of 50.

Glean was born on September 4, 1972, in Alexandria, Louisiana, to Jerry Neenan, Sr. and wife, Regina.  He grew up in Ragley, Louisiana, on 120 acres of trees and farmland. Glean enjoyed riding motorcycles and ATVs, staying out till dark and occasionally finding trouble the way only boys in the country can. Glean always wanted to know how things worked and would spend hours taking things apart just to see if he could put them back together again. Glean was also musically talented playing trumpet in the school band and the fiddle and drums with friends after school.

Born on Labor Day, it is no surprise that Glean enjoyed working on things and helping others. At the age of thirteen, he had his first job taking care of the animals sold at the local auction barn. At fourteen, he began working with his dad in the oilfield. As an adult, he drove 18 wheelers with the handle “John Boy” and worked as a boilermaker in local refineries and chemical plants. He ultimately returned to the oil field working his way up to supervisor on drilling rigs. When not working, Glean loved spending time with family and friends, wood working, making knives, tinkering in his garage and helping others. As a husband and father, Glean cherished his family, loving his “bonus” children as he loved his own.

In 2018, Glean was involved in a severe traffic accident that put him in a wheelchair with a broken spine. The doctors said he would never walk again. But Glean had a secret. A love that would not be denied. He and Shannon had their first date on April 2, 2016. Four years after his accident, they would stand together binding themselves and their families with love. After two surgeries and countless days of physical therapy, Glean recently took his first steps toward a dream of dancing with Shannon as husband and wife. He never gave up. He never stopped believing.

Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay.

A golden heart stopped beating;

hard working hand were laid to rest.

God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.

The family greatly appreciates all those who loved and cared for Glean during his time on this earth. But a special thanks to Dr. Brinker and staff at Fondren Orthopedic, Houston, Texas, as well as the physical therapists at TIRR, Houston, Texas, and Park Medical in Beaumont, Texas, for keeping Glean’s dreams alive.

Those left to cherish Glean are his wife, Shannon Neenan of Beaumont, Texas; mother, Regina Cooley of Dequincy, Louisiana; sister, Margaret Neenan of Sulphur, Louisiana; sons, Anthony Neenan and wife, Kimberly, of Mauriceville, Texas; Randal Neenan and wife, Heather, of Groves, Texas; Austin Neenan and wife, Elizabeth, of Dayton, Texas; and Bryce Hutt of Beaumont, Texas; and daughters, Katrina Neenan of DeRidder, Louisiana, Cyndi Neenan of Batson, Texas, and Hannah Hutt of Beaumont, Texas. Glean was blessed by his five grandchildren, Braylie, Dawsyn, Zoiey, Cloey and Rosalie and loved by his in-laws, Terri and George Coleman; and by many more extended family and friends.

A gathering of Mr. Neenan’s family and friends will begin at 2:00 p.m., with his funeral service to follow at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, August 5, 2023, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont with Pastor Steve Ford of Dawndale Baptist Church officiating. His cremation arrangements will be handled through Broussard’s Crematorium.
