Mike Davis

October 27, 1955 - July 31, 2023

Michael “Mike” Jewel Davis was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He left this world suddenly on July 31, 2023, at the age of sixty-seven.

Mike was raised in Beaumont, Texas, where he graduated from Forest Park High School. Shortly after graduation, Mike began his plumber’s apprenticeship and joined the Plumbers Local Union 68. He worked for many years as a journeyman plumber, retiring in 2016.

A devoted father, Mike enjoyed coaching his sons’ little league baseball teams, taking the boys on beach vacations and camping, and teaching them to water ski, fish, and crab. Mike instilled the value of hard work in his sons, teaching them to plow with the tractor and raise livestock on the family farm in Meeker, Texas. Accompanying their father to job sites, Jeremiah and Zack learned plumbing skills at an early age.

Mike and Peggy met in 2000 and were married in Lumberton, Texas in November of 2001, blending “his boys” with “her girls.”  Already young adults, the new sibling group forged a special bond, delighting in family gatherings, creating new holiday traditions, and watching their own children grow up with one another.

“Papa” adored his grandchildren and was careful to carve out precious time for them. Papa was proud to teach his grandsons a new skill or connect with his granddaughters using his trademark humor and sarcasm. The grandkids enjoyed many weekend visits with Papa and Nana, and with numerous family vacations at the lake house or the beach cabin on Bolivar Peninsula.

Mike had many close friends, from his coworkers in industry and in the union, to his boating and fishing friends at the lake, to his tight-knit group on the peninsula. Always up for a good time, Mike enjoyed his nights out at “The Wheel,” even performing as Magic Mike on one special occasion. But what his friends and family will remember most about Mike was his giving heart and caring nature.

A retired journeyman plumber, Mike is survived by his wife, Peggy; children, Jeremiah (Misty) Davis of Frisco; Zack (Shanna) Davis of Beaumont; step-daughters Lisa (Kristina) Allen of Johnstown, Colorado; and Kelly (Ty) Gwynn of Mont Belvieu; nine grandchildren, Oliver, Raven, Marley, Trinity, Nora, Georgia, Brady, Henry, and Tristah; parents, John and Geraldine Davis; sisters, Lynn Davis and Sharon Talbott; brothers, Ricky Davis and David Davis; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A gathering of Mr. Davis’ family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m., with his funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 4, 2023, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His cremation arrangements will be handled through Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont. Immediately following the service a gathering of family and friends will take place at The Book Nook, 10405 Cooks Lake Road, Lumberton, Texas.
