Christian Michael “Crick” Sykes

December 19, 1977 - August 12, 2023

Christian Michael Sykes, 45, of Hamshire, died Saturday, August 12, 2023, after spending a perfect day fishing with his son, Jude. He was born December 19, 1977, to Camille and Michael Sykes.

Christian loved saltwater fishing and spending time at the beach with friends and family, but more than anyone else, with Jude.  He loved his family more than anything.  Christian never met a stranger, and if you knew him you knew that you could always count on him for whatever was needed.  He was the first to offer support to anyone, and he was there with a smile on his face and, more often than not, Jude by his side.  He worked as a Journeyman Stagehand as a member of IATSE Local 183 and as the Technical Director and Shop Manager for the Department of Theater and Dance at Lamar University.  Christian was patient and kind and always took the time to encourage and teach his coworkers and students.

Survivors include his mother, Camille Phelan Sykes of Fannett; wife, Amie Telano, of Hamshire and their two children, Hannah Teresa and Jude Michael; sister, Taryn Sykes, of Fannett and her daughter, Grace Kathryn, who he loved like his own daughter, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of other relatives, friends, and union brothers and sisters.

He is preceded in death by his father, Michael Sykes and his sister, Kathryn Nicole Sykes.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lifeshare Blood Center, 4305 Laurel Avenue, Beaumont, Texas 77707, or Coastal Conservation Association Texas, 6919 Portwest Dr., Suite 100, Houston, TX 77024.

A Memorial Mass for Mr. Sykes will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 19, 2023, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 9894 Gilbert Road, Beaumont, with a gathering of family and friends to follow after the service in the parish hall. His cremation arrangements were handled through Broussard’s Crematorium under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont.

I can’t put into words the feelings I wish to convey to you and your family. Christian was family to us as well here at LifeShare. He and Jude brightened our days when they came in. The love they have for each other was wonderful to see. Just know that you are in our hearts and prayers.

I had the pleasure of working with Christian at Lamar in the Theatre department. He was always such a kind and giving person to those around him. The students loved working with him and he was a professional who was so skilled at what he did. My heart goes out to his beautiful family, colleagues, friends and students. Such a tragic loss.

We will miss Christian at the Lutcher. It just won’t be the same. I didn’t get to talk to him much on show nights but every time we saw each other he smiled and included me. I can’t be at the service Saturday as I’ll be traveling but my heart is with your family as Christian was so a part of the Lutcher family. May you know God’s peace, and rest in the promise of Jesus. Our family is praying for yours.
