Betty J. Chachere Baker

June 4, 1940 - August 18, 2023

Betty J. Chachere Baker, 83, of Beaumont, died Friday, August 18, 2023. She was born on June 4, 1940, in Church Point, Louisiana, to Angie Thibodeaux and Richard Chachere.

Betty was a devoted Catholic, taught Confraternity of Christian Doctrine and was a member of the Catholic Daughters. She loved to bake, was an excellent seamstress, as well as a nurse, welder, and pipefitter. Betty was very handy and had a green thumb when it came to her plants. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Survivors include her children, Gaylor Jones Walker of Houston; Debra Collins Kim of Beaumont; and Merisa K. Pickens of Beaumont; grandchildren, Mandre Zachary and his wife, Cathy, of Beaumont; Erica Collins of Houston; Alicia Collins Perkins and her husband, Allen, of Beaumont; Shawn Walker of Houston; Kaleb Pickens of Beaumont; and Tylia Kim of Houston; great-grandchildren, Madeline-Rose Perkins, Graham Walker, and Avery Walker; siblings, Barbara Martin; Lee Chachere and his wife, Marie; Diane Lewis; Gerald Chachere; and Cyrus Chachere and his wife, Alice; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Eulice Chachere, Louvie Chachere, and Earl Wayne Chachere; sisters-in-law, Clara and Darlene Chachere; brothers-in-law, Eddie Martin and Jessie Lewis; and nephew, Willie R. Lewis.

A gathering of Ms. Baker’s family and friends will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, September 1, 2023, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 2, 2023, at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica, 700 Jefferson St., Beaumont, with her interment to follow at Magnolia Cemetery, Beaumont.
