Mozell Haney Whitman

Mozell Whitman, 96, of Nederland, died Saturday, August 26, 2023. She was born March 3, 1927, in Pineland, to Elzie Payne Haney and Ripley Watson Haney.

Mozell grew up in Call Junction, Texas. She went to high school in Kirbyville, however, would be most recognized with her girlfriends as the “Call girls.” These friends would remain lifelong friends and were often found playing cards, dominoes, or Rummikub. Mozell loved working puzzles, watching the Astros (win or lose), and occasionally trying her very good luck at the slots! Mozell was always willing to share her food, unless it was fried chicken or a hamburger. She was caught, on occasion, sharing with her furry pal, Todd. Mozell loved her family fiercely and she will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her children, Lisa Whitman McGlothin and Rob Whitman and wife, Paula; grandchildren, Ashley McGlothin and wife, Jessica; Blaine McGlothin; and Keaton Davis and husband, Aaron; great-grandchildren, Hannah Whitman, Izakk Whitman, Emilee Whitman, Ryann Whitman, Luke Davis, and Wren McGlothin; great-great-grandchild, Hazel Whitman; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and close family friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Lamar Whitman, Sr.; brother, Roy Haney; sister, Wanda Grayson; and grandson, Robert Chad Whitman.

A gathering of Mrs. Whitman’s family and friends will begin at 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at Broussard’s. Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 31, 2023, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12^th Street, Nederland, with her interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.

Memorial contributions in Mrs. Whitman’s honor may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
