Gladys Lee Barrileaux

November 20, 1924 - September 7, 2023

Gladys Lee Barrileaux, 98, of Beaumont, died Thursday, September 7, 2023. She was born on November 20, 1924, in Beaumont to Ella Boudreaux and Joseph Lewis Barrileaux.

Gladys graduated Beaumont High School in 1943. She began her higher education at Lamar Jr. College and continued to on to the University of Texas on Fellowship. After graduation she started her journalism career at Beaumont Enterprise and Journal. Gladys went on to become the assisting editor to the Beaumont Journal. She then worked for the Galveston Sun for many years. While there she had many opportunities to meet and interview many famous stars who were preforming at the famous Ballanese Ballroom overlooking the water. While living in Galveston she researched and wrote articles on Galveston Southern Mansions, that were later published in a book.

Survivors include her caregivers; nephew, Albert Nolan and niece, Irene Griffin and her husband, Charles; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gladys is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Earl Barrileaux, Buck Barrileaux, and Weldon Barrileaux, and sister, Myrtle Nolan.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Jefferson Nursing and Rehabilitation and Gentive Hopsice for the wonderful care shown to Ms. Gladys.

A graveside service for Ms. Barrileaux will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 9, 2023, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 4955 Pine Street, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont.
