David E. Montgomery

April 5, 1952 - October 2, 2023

David E. Montgomery, 71, passed away October 2, 2023, at Cascades Senior Rehab in Port Arthur, TX, due to complications from dementia. David had resided in Beaumont, TX for many years before moving to memory care. 

 

David was born April 5, 1952, the son of the late Emerson and Ada Fulton Montgomery of Evans City, PA. David was a 1970 graduate of Seneca Valley High School in Zielinople, PA. He received his bachelor’s degree in history from Westminster College in Westminster, PA and his master’s degree in history from Slippery Rock University, Slippery Rock, PA. David earned his master’s in library science at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, Ill. 

 

He was a historical library director in Davenport, Iowa before moving to Beaumont, TX to become the director of Tyrrell Historical Library for the remainder of his career. He enjoyed collecting antiques and was interested in Russian history. He travelled with his U Illinois alumni group to St. Petersburg, Russia, and also visited Montgomery relatives in Belfast, N. Ireland. 

 

David is survived by his brother, Curtis (wife Christine), of Essex Junction, VT, as well as his nephews Justin Montgomery of Winooski, VT and Colin Montgomery of Brooklyn, NY. In addition, he leaves maternal cousins, James Fulton of Milford, CT, and Betsy Turbacuski of Unionville, CT and their spouses and children and Montgomery family members. 

 

Cremation arrangements for Mr. Montgomery were handled through Broussard’s Crematorium under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont.

    David was a very good neighbor for many years. He was friendly and always generous during community campaign fund raisers . Conversations with David were always interesting and professional. Neighbors appreciated his taking good care of his property. David is in God’s arms now and is finally at rest after his long illness. Our sincere sympsthy to his family
